Do smaller eggs produce smaller birds (who lay smaller eggs)?

Hello everyone! :) I'm about to start a hatch of 2 doz. eggs. About half of them are the size eggs I enjoy selling--they're just a normal large size like you get from the grocery store. The other half are the size that I always wish were bigger. They're about medium. If I hatch the mediums I...

All the chicks I hatch die...

Hey everyone! Happy Thanksgiving!! This summer I hatched 9 chicks. The rest of my chickens (50+) are hatchery-bought, and are ages ranging from 7 years (still laying! :O) to 1 1/2 years. I've always had chickens die randomly, sometimes with prior sleepiness and low appetites, but sometimes out...

    Rampant Egg eating and pecking

I have 45+ hens, and they lay over 3 doz. a day. (SIDE NOTE: Is that a good amount?) Their egg eating is ATROCIOUS!! I have the following 3 problems: 1) GIANT, thin shelled egg. I think there is only one hen who does this. The first time she did it, I cracked the MASSIVE egg, and it had...

    Nesting Hen with Mites

hey all! My broody hen abandoned her nest temporarily yesterday to take a dust-bath. Maybe I was overreacting, but I put them in an incubator while she vacationed. :P Then she came back and sat in another box with just one egg in it, so I put her eggs back under her. To get to the main point...

    Chick only opens one eye

I just realized that my chick that hatched last night can only open one eye! I tried (gently) to open the other, but it seems to be stuck...Does anyone know how to fix this, or if it will eventually open? Thanks!

Only 5 of 11 Incubated Eggs Hatched!

Hey all! I had 11 happy eggs in my incubator, but six of them never pipped to the air pocket. I opened them this morning and they were all fully formed. Does anyone know why this happened? The same thing happened to me in June too. Thanks a lot!
