    Hen or Roo?

My chicks are a little over a month old. They are Cochin/Orpington. I got them from a homesteader friend. I’m pretty sure this might be a roo, but wanted another opinion. The other 3 are bigger and have definite tails. Thx

Hoop Coop Tractor vs Stationary Coop//Run in Winter

This may be a dumb question but here goes… I’m trying to decide on what kind of coop to make. If you have a hoop tractor, do you leave it in one place during winter and put some sort of floor layering in it? (e.g., sand, straw, pellets, shavings, etc.)

    I’m excited to be back!

I have had chickens and ducks before, but it didn’t work out. This time I’m determined to do everything right. My hubby says I can get some chicks for my bday. I think I’ll start with 3-4 this time. They are Cochin/Orpington. I love sitting in the yard with them and watching their antics. I...

    Silkie with leg injury

One of my 20 week old silkies injured her leg jumping from coop to the run. At least that's what I think happened. She started with just a limp, and is now dragging her leg. I can't feel anything wrong or out of place anywhere, and there aren't any lesions or sores or anything. She seems strong...

Can chicken wire be used for skirting around chicken run?

We're in the process of finishing up a chain-link dog run for the run attached to the shed for the coop. We put up the chain link, then 1/2" hardware cloth up 4 feet all around. My question is, will chicken wire work for the skirting around the run, or do I also need to use hardware cloth there...

Frizzled Buff Orpington, or being picked on?

Hi, my little 9 week buff orpy's feathers seem to be curling up instead of smooth like her 2 sisters. also bare spots underneath. I haven't seen any picking, but she also seems thin. Her breast bone is very prominant.

I'm reading all the threads, but can't figure out what heating pad to use for the Mama Heating Pad (MHP) method. I don't want to use the heat lamp. Thanks 5 3-day old Silkies to keep warm

    Hello

I'm new to chickens. I've had pet ducks, guinea pigs, cats, and dogs, but never chickens. When I joined this site 5 years ago, I had six ducks. My husband and I moved to 7.4 acres in the spring of 2014. We have a blended family of 7 grown kids and 23 grand kids. I'd like our grandchildren and I...

    Hello from Cheney WA

Been member for awhile, gleaning information about chicken keeping. On Memorial Day weekend I became the mom of 6 Khaki Campbell ducklings, instead of chickens! I love this website, it is, by far, the most informative site I've found in my research. Our family consists of my husband and I, a...
