I posted when my chicks were only a week or two old. I'm still wondering about them. I have 4 lavender orpingtons & not sure if I have 4 girls or 2 girls & 2 boys. I will also post a pic of one that a friend bought from me in the same batch.
I bought all my latest babies straight run and in the brooder right now I have 4 Lavender Orpingtons. They are cute as can be but I can't help but wonder if the difference I see in one of them means it will be a roo. They are only a week old and know I'm getting ahead of myself but can't help...
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what they think about these 3 chicks. They were all supposed to be BCMs but their coloring is really different.
Here they are as a couple days old - two of them were really black and have feathered feet:
Then here's the one that had a little more...
This was free from a local store and was in the "mix" box. Just curious what you all think...
This was at a couple days old (chipmunky looking one):
And here at about 3.5 weeks:
Any other tell tale signs that I could post pics of?
Ordered 15 chicks and may grab 3 more as well... Was thinking at first to use a plastic tub and now I'm thinking that may only last me a week? If I cut a hole in two plastic tubs and taped them together would this work? I see 2-2.5 square feet per bird and now am worried that I will have too...
We are planning on getting chicks either this fall or spring and was hoping that I could get some pointers on what is right/wrong with my plans and some advice. :)
Chicks - planning on purchasing 9-12 chicks. Breeds we are currently thinking are Araucanas, Iowa Blue Heritage, Exchequer Leghorn...
