Discovered that one of my broody hens has mites when I checked the eggs under her. What is the best way to treat all of the birds and the coop? I am planning on completely cleaning out the coop, treating the coop and the birds, and then replacing the bedding. Hopefully before the middle of...
Just curious if some of the hatcheries have better CornishX lines than others?
We ordered 20 from McMurray this year and they were nice birds. We butchered at 7 weeks, 3 days and they were good sized. Our scale wasn't large enough to weigh them but I would guess they were an average of 5 lbs...
My Meyer BBB turkey poults are now 3 weeks old approximately. I've noticed for the last week that three of the poults will posture (fluff up their feathers and hold their wings out and walk circles around the others). Is that an indication that those three are males? If the other two are not...
TY for your input :)
Chick 1: Silver Laced Wyandotte - nearly 5 weeks.
Chick 2: Barred Rock??? - almost 6 weeks. This chick is by far the smallest of the other barred chicks.
Chick 3: Gold Laced Wyandotte - almost 6 weeks.
Chick 4: Barred Rock??? - almost 6 weeks. Very...
a day old turkey weigh? Just curious. I ordered five from Meyer and the info says the box weighs two pounds. I was hoping they might throw in a few chick packing peanuts, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Two lbs (box included) is nothing! TIA!
We ordered quite the assortment of chicks from MMM plus received a free exotic chick. They are now 2 weeks, 3 days. So many of them look alike. Thoughts? TY!
Chick 1: (Easter Egger pullet???)

Here are three of my Easter Egger chicks. They are about a week old. Quick to develop wing and tail feathers. Thoughts on gender?

We've decided on sand for the coop. The outdoor run is 10' x 23' and is a concrete pad with sides that come up about a foot. So there will be no drainage below the litter. And yes, we will be enclosing it with hardware cloth and a roof. What litter would work best in this situation? TY!
We have a shed on our property that we will be repurposing into a chicken coop. It sits on a concrete pad that we would like to enclose to make a chicken run. They will free range during the day, but I'd like to leave the pop door open into the run at all times so they aren't stuck in the coop...
We were originally hoping to get a flock of Icelandic chickens, but they proved too difficult to find. Instead we chose to try a bunch of different breeds to see what we like, send the extra roosters to freezer camp (or any that don't get along), and maybe next year concentrate on just a few...
We purchased our hobby farm last November. This shed was existing on the property and since we have no real use for it we would like to convert it to a coop for the new chicks. Please pardon the mess the prior owner's left laying around.
The interior space is 7'4" x 13'6". The height is...
