I have a silver wyandot that was pecked by one of my other chickens on the ear. She has a small peice of skin hanging. The bleeding stopped. I cleansed the area with warm water and peroxide and covered with betadine. I have 7 other chickens all different breeds. They don't seem to be bothering...
My coop is 4×8 4ft height. I want to add a red heat light this winter but am concerned about safety. Would adding the bulb at the ceiling be far enough away from bedding to provide adequate heat but prevent fire?

Beginner with chickens and construction. I want to build a 4 x 8 Coop. My biggest concerns are ventilation, an easy roof, and warmth for the winter months! I live in Ohio and we see all weather types. These last few winters have brought us -20° temperatures. Please help!
