I have an open tub of water that my hens drink from and my duck can submerge his head and drink from.
We have a surprise chick that’s hatched and it will be able to jump into the water tub before long and not be able to get out.
What are some safe solutions y’all use that work for everyone?
We use a 3 gallon bucket for our duck’s water. We also have chicks that are starting to hop up and I rescued a chick from that bucket of water. Without a mama hen to watch over, do you have any ideas on a safe water solution for everyone?
We have this cutie, about 2 1/2 months old. By appearance, it seems to be a girl, but by “quack” it seems boy. Its noises are soft chirps, no quacks. We bought it from a vendor at our farmer’s market. She said it’s a barnyard mix.
We have a barred rock mama sitting on eggs. Her first chick hatched this morning and in a matter of hours, when we went back to check on it, the chick had a bloody back. We left it while we fixed up a separate container to care for it in but now we don’t see it and the peeping has stopped...
I have an almost 1 year old barred rock. For 2 days she hasn’t been able to bear her own weight, she looked to have had slight vent prolapse (2nd photo) but it seems to be better now, she is panting.
We have her in the house and she is drinking some, eating some.
I have never looked at our...
I went to let out the chickens and discovered a chicken sitting OUTside the coop in the yard. She can't stand, is panting and has a poopy butt (maybe because she can't stand to poop?). She is almost a year old. No signs of injury anywhere.
Our 8-week-old barred rock hens have a behavior we've never experienced before in our previous chickens. We go to the coop in the a.m. to let them out to free range. I dump a few big scoops of chicken food out in view of them outside the door, then I step back and open the door. Instead of...
We got a shipment of 50 barred rock chicks on Wed. We paid extra to have them vaxxed.
One chick was unbalanced and shaking from the very start. 4 days later she has not improved. She will drink a tiny bit if we hold her to the water but can't get her to eat. Her most recent dropping had a...
We have such a cockroach problem in our coop. It's not all that far from the house so I'm concerned they will eventually make their way inside. How can we get rid of them without hurting our hens?
This one is a first for us. It's always something and I'm getting weary of fighting so hard to keep our animals AND garden thriving and well. Never lost a chicken to a snake before. :(
I have spent the past half hour trying to figure out how large I need to build our new coop in order to give our 15 hens 4 square feet each. I have dyscalculia so that makes it hard, I know it's a fairly simple math problem.
We got an assortment of chicks from Tractor Supply. I can't remember what this huge white one was "supposed" to be but she's not right. She grew SO fast. She seems too heavy to walk well and she's so dirty and disheveled. What breed is she? We have leghorns and she is twice as wide as they are.
Saw them at Tractor Supply and thought it would be a great solution to our chickens kicking wood chips into their water. BUT they can't seem to figure out how to use it. I show them but they don't "get it". Any suggestions? They peck at the water that drips down.
We bought all girls (ha ha) and had one obvious rooster. Got rid of him after he attacked and knocked over our 5yo. Now we notice this "girl". I think our black ones are australorps and they're about 4 months old. This looks like a rooster to me but it hasn't crowed at all. What do you think?
This little treasure was found in the egg laying box yesterday. The shell was the usual color and consistancy and when I cracked it open, it contained some egg white but no yolk. It was quite a bit smaller than a usual egg. I would love to know what happened, is it common, have you seen it...
We had three peking ducks - one male, two female. They got along great and stayed super close together. Yesterday when we woke up, the male and one female were gone. Just gone without a trace. The remaining duck has been calling and calling for them. :(
We can't seem to solve the mystery...
We're planning a chicken/duck run but we have a young orange and young lemon tree in the area we want it. Is it possible that the birds will eat the leaves and blossoms?
