My hutch is attracting flies which the hens try to catch but end up pecking the wire cage. They've done this enough that one of them has a bit of beak damage. I'm keeping the hutch pretty clean, but with this heat there is no beating the flies. Any suggestions on a solution? Can I help her beak...
Just found out I'm pregnant with our second (yay!!) I'm not sure what precautions I should take around my hens to avoid any health problems or parasites or whatnot that could hurt me or the baby. My husband is willing to take over some duties but I dont want to stop taking care of my girls...
Most of my hens (Coturnix) are laying normal healthy looking eggs. They're only 8 weeks old and this is their first week of laying. One of the girls has laid eggs with almost white shells and the shells are a bit clumpy. there are little chunks of shell on the outside.
The other thing is that...
We got our first Coturnix egg today. It was pimp the hutch day (New watered/ sand bath/ nesting box addition). I went to move them back to the hutch and found it laying in the spare cage! 7 and a half weeks old and happy little buggers!
