I posted about this bird in the General FAQ forum but have had zero response, so I thought that I would try here.
This Welsummer chick is coming up to 9 weeks old, the pic shows him with his normal tailed brother. Bumless George, as the name implies, seems to have no tail. How common is this...
I have a couple of Welsummer chicks, 8 weeks old now. One still has no tail feathers at all. I will post a pic once it is light enough outside. Is it possible for a Welsummer chick to be rumpless. How common are defects like this?
It may still be too early to tell with these three chicks, they are ten weeks old and I am starting to think that they are all cockerels :(
Blue, black and partridge ( I am not sure if that is the correct term for this colouring as there are blue feathers coming in)
I have a little hen who I have posted about in the past. I am not sure of her breeding, she hatched from a large, very dark brown egg, has black skin, four toes, a crest, beard, and yesterday laid a little blue egg.
She is in with my main group of chooks, who are looked after by a lovely...
I have three araucana chicks, coming up to 8 weeks old now. I have been changing my mind about their gender every week since they hatched. Any help would be appreciated, especially if you can tell me what you see that makes you think that they are male or female.
I have a black, a blue and a...
I have 3 araucana chicks, 5 and a bit weeks old. One black, one blue and a partridge or red black, not sure of the correct term.
Please could anyone with knowledge of this breed give me advice on what to watch for to tell the sex of them. If male, do they get their hackle and saddle feathers...
I just noticed that one of my threads, the first that I ever posted here, has vanished. Do they get removed after a certain length of time or something?
Hi there, my chicks are 6 weeks old now. I got some more photos today. I will need to get more of one of them who seems to be far more camera shy! Any clues yet as to gender please?

This chick is just a week old and is supposed to be a Black Copper Marans, the egg that it came from was lovely and very dark brown but I am starting to wonder if it might be crossed with something else. Its wing feathers are coming in with a lot of brown and the down on its head has a coppery...
I have an araucana pullet, she is about 19 weeks old. I have noticed her comb is beginning to redden and wondered if she could be coming up to laying time. She isn't squatting yet but then she can't see me unless I am down at her level due to her bouffant hairstyle (I think that she may get a...
Hi, I know that I should wait until about six weeks but I am far too impatient! Does anyone have any idea of the gender of these two chicks? The one on the left in the top pic and right in the bottom one, is much more scruffy and is the smallest of the two. It makes a heck of a racket if it is...
This is probably a really silly question but...
I have 3 british araucana chicks, now 2 weeks old. I just noticed today that all of them have downward pointing tails - they do have tails but the angle is really odd to me. I haven't kept this breed before and I am used to seeing chicks' tails at...
I have a little Silkie cross Marans (we think) pullet who we have named Tina. Her foster mum went broody again several weeks after Tina hatched, so we gave her some eggs to sit on.
Tina was helping her foster mum hatch out the eggs. The eggs are due to hatch in the next few days, so we took...
I have a couple of black copper marans chicks that hatched last week-end, so 3-4 days old now. One of them, who hatched first, is much larger and has started sprouting feathers. The wing feathers particularly are really growing fast. They are sticking out and it looks like a little penguin. Is...
I am having a problem getting my chickens sorted out. For quite a while now, 5 out of 10 chickens in my little flock have been making whirring, rattley noises. The ones which are affected are, with one exception, older birds, around 6 or 7 years old. The younger birds have no symptoms bar the...
This is probably a dumb question but here goes anyway. I am getting a blue red auracana cockerel, a blue red araucana hen and a black araucana pullet. What colour combinations will I get from chicks hatched from their eggs?
I posted some pics of this chick before and the consensus of opinion was that it was a silkie cross, probably with a marans as the egg that it hatched from was extremely dark brown. Still no obvious sign of it being male or female (to me that is), except that I keep thinking the tail feathers...
