6 day old chicks and a bully already!? please help!

So, my favorite chick..an EE.. is turning out to be a bully. From day one 'she' (maybe a roo??) Has had a standout personality. She always makes eye contact with us when we get close to the brooder, is the biggest, and just seems to be at the top of the order. Well, today I noticed that she is...

    Mixing these breeds?

We had to cull our small flock and are starting over. We've picked an assortment of breeds and I'm curious if they'll (generally) get along. I know being raised together from chicks will help. We will have these hens... 1 silkie bantam 2 rocks 2 speckled Sussex 2 easter eggers 2 wyndottes

    disinfecting after sickness

We had to cull our flock after battling a respiratory illness. I know that we have to wait two months before we can repopulate the coop but if we disinfect the feeders and waterers can we use them for our next batch of baby chickens in two weeks? If so, what are the proper disinfecting procedures?

    waiting period after culling

After treating our hens with Tylan and they all seemed better, our smallest hen has relasped. I think we've come to the point where we are going to have to cull them. Our 3 year old daughter is heartbroken. My question is how long do we have to wait to bring in new chickens?

    Nipple waterer training

I'm not sure what else to try... We hung a 5 gallon waterer with 4 nipples yesterday. We removed all other water sources and showed our hens where the water comes from. 24 hrs later, they are still not drinking from it. I tried for 20 minutes to teach them but they were just pecking the water on...

    Tylan 50 duration...longer than 5 days??

Hey all! We are still battling this sickness after 5 days of tylan 50 injections. The hens are SIGNIFICANTLY better but not 100%. One still has a mild cough and another's eye is still a little gunky. Should we continue to administer meds or have we reached the maximum dose? I'm amazed at how...

Very new to the game here! We brought home 3, 3 month old pullets a few days ago. One of the hens was acting strange from the beginning. She keep breathing heavily with her beak open, head up and eyes closed. Eventually we found her clinging to life. The same day, Our adult roo found his way...

    Open Coop? Feedback welcome!

We just finished our coop and run. As you can see our coop is open. I know thy are usually closed to protect against predators. We live 15 minutes from our 4 acres (where our chickens are) so going out twice a day to put them up and let them out of the coop isn't ideal. I grew up helping my...
