    Too much calcium?

    In addition to layer mix we put crushed oyster shell out as calcium supplement. The chooks eat it like its candy. Their eggs are well formed with hard shells. How likely is it that layers would eat too much calcium, and if so what problems would it cause?

    Overachiever

    At five days less than 4 months old my pullet already laid an egg. To top that, it had a double yolk. I'm so proud of her. I've found one egg every day since. Are the eggs likely from the same bird, or have the others also started laying this soon. Can very young birds lay an egg every day?

    early egger

    My newest batch of chick are only 15 weeks old. I was very surprised to find an egg in the nest box yesterday and today. I'm curious to find out which breed is most likely to be laying so young. The eggs were brown, so they came from Rhode Island Red, Welsummer or Red Star.
