Finally after weeks of worry and stress my hen hatched out 8 chicks out of 10 eggs!!
Everyone is happy and all look healthy. They have already taken to eating and water!! I am planning on letting mother raise them, but worry about letting her take them out in the open. Right now I am...
A month ago someone gave me a young rooster. I really didn't think much about it because the two chickens I have have never showed signs of being broody. However, I lost one of my chickens about 10 days ago...couldn't find her anywhere! Finely I spotted her sitting under an old board that was...
A while ago one of my chickens got out of the coop...When I found her she was missing all of the feathers from her back. The skin was not broken...just all of the feathers gone. I didn't think too much about it since she recently went through a molting period. Then this weekend I found one of my...
A couple of months ago my chickens when through a molting period, during this time a significant amount of feather loss accrued with one of the chickens, (New Hampshire Red) I didn't think too much about since she was acting fine and it didn't affect her laying performance. Then last month she...
Below are some pictures of my coop and some of my birds. I don't have "progress" pictures of my coop...just the finished product. I will admit that I did go in and add a run to the coop, but other than that the pict you see is final.
Below are two Barred Rock and a NHR

We bought 4 chickens May 1st of 2009. They were all supposed to be female...but I think this one is a roo. Can anyone confirm? He/she is a Jersey Giant breed and the name for it is Garlic
In August one of my New Hampshire Reds started to lay eggs I was getting one a day for about two weeks! However, how I am lucky to get 1 every three or four days!! I cant figure out what is going wrong she has plenty of water, food, and access to crushed oyster shells! (Same as other chickens)...
I noticed today that one of my chicken's (New Hampshire Red) poop comes out in a large glop. It is sorta runny, and looks like snot (when you have a cold).
How can I tell if she is sick? If you all want I can post pictures of the poop, but I don't want to gross anyone out!
I have been reading all of the posts for a couple of weeks now. I have 6 chickens: 2 New Hampshire Reds, 2 Jersey Giants, 2 BR. I have been getting eggs from my NHR for about 3 weeks! Nothing from the others (they are only 3.5 months old)
Just wanted to say hey, and thanks for all the great info!
