I have a 4 week old partridge rock pullet who possibly injured herself this afternoon (I think she jumped onto the feeder which was apparently empty as it was laying on the floor near her- we went to get my daughter from preschool and get more chick starter as I poured the rest of the bag into...
What is the name of the sand that you have? I’m having a hard time finding sand from any of the places near me. I have asked for triple wash, bank run and construction sand. One place I just called said they only have screened field sand which I think is limestone.
We just found a solid shell less egg in the nesting box, what the heck is it and why did one of my chickens lay it? It freaked me out just a bit!
I bought these hens from a breeder of several different breeds. They said they are pure Amauracanas. Regardless I like them and wouldn’t get rid of them but was just wondering. It’s the 3 Black And whites, and brownish reddish in the middle of two black and whites.
At first I thought it was MG, but my birds that had it and healed perfect fine with Tylan 50 seems to be doing nothing for her. I feel bad. Is there something else I can give her. I don’t want to cull unless there is nothing else I can do for her and it’s necessary so she doesn’t suffer. :o(...
My chickens free range (and we have dogs, plus wild deer and bunnies) We want to treat the yard for ants and fleas (ticks too but haven't seen any in a while) but want to make sure it's safe for the animals to be around
Hey all! Our coop and run is on dirt. All we have is dirt or rocks (didn't completely realize the ground quality when we bought the land because it was literally all trees. )
Anyhow, the coop I know how to maintain, I do the deep litter method but may switch to river rock (not completely sure...
How do you check if a chicken is egg bound? Do you literally put a glove on and feel around the inside of their vent? I have a 1.5 yr old gold Laced Wyandotte. She hasn't laid in like 3 days now. She eat and drinks, her comb and waddle are still red. We're in Southern Texas but she had been...
Are Sebrights generally a small breed? My mother in law just traded a rooster for a female Sebright and the lady said she was born in April but she seems SOOOO tiny! We have chickens born in April and they are way bigger!
How do you tell the sex of silkies? They look completely different than the others lol. We have 3 of them that we thought should be laying by now, they're about 27 weeks so almost 7 months. Unless they're laying under the shed where we can't get to than they're not laying yet.
Hey all! So I have one hen that's laying (1.5yrs old) the rest are 4.5 months or younger. I was told I should add in oyster shells which helps the eggs?
I got them for this gorgeous gal Lacey
What do I do with them? Put them in food? By itself? I buy Nutrena starter grower because I have two 7...
Is this what everyone means by a chickens face turning red? She is 17 weeks. (Terrible picture, she kept turning) but comb is now red, face now has red and getting a wattle that is red as well
And here is one that looks like it's starting to
This may be a stupid question but can chickens get fleas? They are all over the yard right now because my mother in law rescued a puppy from the middle of the road at her boyfriends house and brought her home without giving her a flea bath/flea meds and it infested 3 other dogs which then...
I was wondering if it was ok to stretch some starter/grower with some turkey crumble? I kept my older ones on starter grower planning on getting them layer crumble when it was gone but then got younger ones that aren't ready for layer feed yet (it's 16% protein) and I still had a small amount of...
It's been a while since I've let my older chickens start to free range (and really because of the Southern Texas heat {its 100* right now} they don't really go anywhere, they stay under our house where there is shade and white base/dirt until the sun starts to go down and it gets cooler (I leave...
