I have an all-white cochin bantam rooster. I was reading about the breed, and white was not listed in the list of colors. Is he a cross-bred? Or is there another name for "white" cochin?
My 6 little girls seem huge! They are at that stage where they keep finding ways out of their brooder box, eating like horses, and whine at me until I let them play outside. I'm having a hard time dealing with the fact they need to stay in the house for another 4 weeks, lol. Seems I have 6...
I know you guys won't judge me, cause you are all nuts about chickens like me. I was cuddling my house rooster yesterday and giving him kisses on his beak and I realized what good breath he has!! It smells so good, almost as good as puppy breath! He had just come from outside where he was...
There are so many big, beautiful, (and expensive-looking) coups on this site! I would love to see some pics of some small but functional coups people built themselves out of what was laying around! Thanks!
I have been needing to trim my cochin's leg feather to better treat his leg mites. (I think I'm winning the battle on that, btw). But will his feather grow out again, or not until he molts? Thanks for any info.
His first spring, and he's loving it. Just wants to be in the yard all the time. Chased a couple of sparrows off the lawn yesterday! Just doing his rooster duties I suppose!
I was just thinking, what is the big deal with chickens? People can get all sorts of exotic parrots and cockatoos they want, (which can be way more destructive and noisy than chickens) but chickens aren't even legal in some cities. I don't get it at all.
It seems like my cochin bantam rooster has the ugliest feet I've ever seen! I don't really have any other chicken feet to compare him to, so I'm wondering if this is normal? Don't have a pic, but they are all rough and callousy looking, not at all smooth and pretty like when he was a chick...
I thought they might be too young to go outside, but it was so nice out, I thought a little time wouldn't hurt. They were loving it! The funniest part was when they would jump and try their wings and bomb their sisters. What nice little girls I have...
I just got my first chicks on Wednesday, I've been wanting to do this for some time now. The only bummer is that my camera has decided it wants to be broken, and I can't post any pics to show off my girls. I got 4 Araucanas and 2 Barred Rocks. The whole family is in love with them, even our...
I'm a little confused.... do the oyster shells provide some necessary calcium for new chicks? Or does it act just as a grit. I have some regular stone grit that I give to my adults, but it kinda looks like it's too big for them? Also, any tricks for giving my chicks a good headstart? I think...
I had quite a time deciding on whether or not my white cochin bantam was a roo or hen. I posted a pic of him on this forum a month or so ago, and everyones opinions differed! It was 50/50! So I figured time was going to have to tell. Well, he has turned out to be a rooster after all! He is...
Any opinions about which bantams are the most proficient egg layers? I like the bantam size, but also wanna eat a few eggs once and awhile too! Thanks!
I got this chick a few months ago when it was getting its adult feathers. Turned out all white with yellow feat, and with feathered legs. I know it's a bantam, very small, but know idea what specific kind. The comb is very small, so I'm thinking maybe a hen? Any suggestions would be greatly...
