my hens haven’t been around my tom for 8 days. Long story short I no longer own him.
Would they still be laying fertile eggs after 8 days.. or is it too late to start letting them keep and hatch eggs starting tomorrow ( day 9)
Up until now I’ve been taking their eggs so they have none...
I have a 10 month old Tom who I raised since he was a few days old. I know getting attached to a turkey is ridiculous, but I’ve considered him to be a pet. I had no intention of raising him for food, just to keep him and a couple hens as hobby pets.
As he got bigger, he became not trustworthy...
I have a lone Muscovy male that I adopted last week. I’m guessing he’s around 1 or 2 years old.
I am supposed to get him another drake ( same breed and age ) as a friend tomorrow. I can’t get more than 1 more duck.. so I figured another male would be better than a female due to him over...
I’ve made a few recent posts about this lone Muscovy drake I brought Home from the rooster drop off pen at the Co op.
I want to get him another companion but only have space for one more.
I’m kind of conflicted if I should get him a female ( will he over breed her? ) or a male buddy.
If I get...
new duck owner. He has a doghouse in his run, but doesn’t use it and stands outside in the rain. Is this normal for a duck? I know my turkeys will just chose to hang out in bad weather instead of going in, unsure about ducks.
Also I gave him a food dish but I don’t really see him eating from it...
hello everyone.. very new to ducks.
I brought home a adult male Muscovy that was left in the rooster drop off pen at my local co op. He tugged at my heart seeing him in there so here I am with an unexpected duck.
I already have several chickens and 3 turkeys.. all kept separate. So Mr. Duck is...
an acquaintance has a sick turkey.
It has a ruffled and tucked in appearance, clear secretions from its nostrils, and a misshapen looking head
I thought likely respiratory or mycoplasma. So I sent her some of my left over Denegard for treatment.
But it’s just a sick and odd looking turkey. She...
I have 2 sibling toms and only 3 hens. All around the same age ( hatched May - June )
I was thinking I’d likely have to re home one of the two toms, but I just read in Storey’s Guide to Raising Turkeys that two genetic sibling toms can live together and the less dominant tom will willingly...
long story short, I rehomed one of my hens ( who I was unsure of their sex and is kinda just a bratty jerk of a turkey ) but the rehoming only lasted a few hours and I decided I missed her sassy pain in the butt.. luckily the person I gave her to was a very understanding soul, lol.
Anyway since...
one of my hens has had several poops that are yellowish and kinda looks like yellow or orange gravy ( super gross description, sorry! )
She was recently exposed to chickens. So in an abundance of caution want to start adding cayenne pepper to their food. How much should I add?
I have 3 pet turkeys, raised from tiny poults. I thought I had 2 hens and 1 tom, but I have one that keeps tricking me and I think I may actually have two males and one female.
I am looking to possibly rehome my tricky turkey, still not 100 percent sure on their sex.. but he/she is a beautiful...
Well I'm convinced my turkey I've posted about a few times ( being confused about the sex ) is actually male.
I'm sure no one has ever asked this question. Haha.. but if I were to have him neutered, could he live with my other male and female peacefully?
Wasnt sure if I should post in the coop design forum.. but I figure most of them are just familiar with chicken coop set ups.
So I live in Wa state and cold weather is right around the corner. Ughhhh rain and cold ( I'm originally from southern Ca )
My coop was all 4 sides hardware cloth. I...
So I have a hen (?) who I'm a bit confused about. "She" will strut in response to my male strutting. But she won't hold it for as long. She has a very impressive tail, much longer than my other hen. But her snood is staying smaller, she's shorter stature than my tom ( from same hatch ) smaller...
Both of my hens are still a bit too young to start laying.
One of them is going on 5 months so I figured it's time to add nesting boxes to their coop.
Not sure if turkeys even have a tendency to use them.. but what I ended up doing is buying two decent sized cat litter pans and filling them...
i just introduced a turkey to my two prior turkeys. All around the same age.
I have one tom and now 2 hens.
The original tom and hen are beating her up. How long will this pecking order establishment last???
Is it normal for a tom to pick on a new hen??
Just have to say that my Turkeys are seriously the sweetest things. They will just sit in my lap and let me pet them until they fall asleep.
Never had a chicken who'd do anything like that.
Turkeys kinda rock.
really want a young Chocolate Turkey Hen. They are incredibly difficult to come by unless I want to order 20 poults from a hatchery.
If anyone breeds or has Chocolate turkeys, then you're awesome and my long difficult search may be over, lol.
I'd also be interested in a young Narragansett hen...
