Hello - have two geese that are always together, so not sure which one is doing this. Guessing is the male, who was recently in 7-day regimen of antibiotics for respiratory infection. However, it might be the female who is laying eggs and maybe having a repro issue?
Anyway, is a watery dark...
HI there -
So I had 2 geese then last year they managed to get a couple eggs to hatch before I snatched them up and now I have 2 ganders.... *sigh*
The youngster, Junior, is going through his first mating season, and has fought with dad a number of times while I have evolved ways to keep them...
Hi there - this chicken got attacked by a dog a few weeks ago and has visibly made a full recovery. Did have some neuro damage that was like a mild stroke that took a couple weeks to visibly get past.
Now this (see pics).
Am wondering if other birds bullying her or if is normal moulting...
Hi all -
Well have a very sick Rhode Island Red. She had a prolapsed egg a couple years ago--which you folks walked me through--and had another two nights ago.
Got the egg removed, but complications. For one, it was my first experience with a lash egg. Finally got into vet who did not...
Hello -
So had 1 of 5 RIR die about a week ago. Only 1y.o. in good health as far as I know. Suspected gander had killed her as he is obnoxious during mating season and he sleeps separate from hens at night because of this. Dunno if was him though. Found her at dusk by coop when went out...
Hi all - Three of hens look like moulting but has been going on for a month or so.
One has this region at base of tail feathers where the feathers have been eaten away in some fashion. All that is left is the quill of the feather and instead of feeling soft, the base feels hard and stiff...
Hello -- So had a prolapsed egg situation with hen laying her first egg. Got that fixed and put her in low light solitary w/8hrs outside to prevent her laying (theory). Well next day she laid another egg and made injury far worse. And today she is trying to lay another.
Wondering what to...
Hi no idea what to make of this. Prolapsed rectum maybe? First egg for this young chicken RIR. It is bloody and hanging just behind her butt. It is in a membrane and attached to her body and will not come off.
What is going on? What to do???
Hi All -
Been monitoring this one RIR of my three for about a week now but seemed a bit off maybe starting a few days before that. The 3 birds are right at a year old and have been reliable egg layers since mid-winter (dropping off during cold spells then starting up again).
So about a week...
Good lord. "Get chickens," they said, "cheap and low-maintenance," they said.
Have been researching researching researching. Got some responses on another discussion. Ready to throw up hands. Would appear that no one on the planet owns chickens, nor needs to deworm them. Vets don't care...
Hello - Have 3 scrawny chickens, a Guinea, and 2 geese. The geese keep fouling the water within minutes of fresh water put in. Believe the chickens are full of worms.
Have been working to keep water as clean as possible. Got a big bucket on a raised brick surface that is harder for them...
