Let's see pictures of your winterized coops. Please post the State or Province you live in so we have an idea of what your winter is like.
I'm in northern Ontario where the winters are brutal; -20 to -40 Celsius with 3-4 feet of snow. I want to get into egg layers soon.
Hello Everyone,
I'm planning on ordering a variety of egg layers from Performance Poultry in Ontario, Canada (Prince Edward County).
Has anyone ever ordered from these people? Please tag anyone you may know. You most likely have to live in Canada to order from this hatchery.
I'm only looking...
My Cornish cross are 4 weeks old. Can they be left in complete darkness during the night? Will they find their water or are they fine not to drink till the early morning sunrise?
The manufacture dates in my bags of grower (17% protein) say it was made on Feb 17, 2018. It's always been kept in a dry and cold storage area on a pallet. Should be good to use until butcher day; July 13???
It's my first time raising broilers. I have noticed for a while now, over 10 days that they do a super quick sneeze and head shake once in a while. Is that common after eating and drinking? All are super active and alert, chasing insects, dust bathing and scratching around the ground. Normal...
Hi everyone,
At what age can Cornish X broilers have adult GRIT? I don' want to introduce it too early and cause crop problems. They have been on chick GRIT since 2 days old. They just turned 4 weeks old today.
Thanks!
Good evening everyone!
I have 100 Cornish cross at 14 days old and give them free access to chick GRIT (crushed granite). Their soft straw bedding is changed twice a day. I now have 6 chicks who have a prominent limp on one foot. Best way to picture it is the chick lifts it's injured foot...
Hi everyone.
It may be too early to diagnose bumblefoot but I think it's the leader. I have 5 ten day old Cornish cross chicks out of 100 who have developed a limp over the last 2 days. They use their wing to balance themselves on the side with the leg that has inflammation and swelling. They...
I have 108 broilers (3 days old) in an 8 by 12 foot brooder. Harsh, cold climate at night. Goes down to 20 or 30F at night in northern Ontario but swings up to 60 or 70F during the day.
Has anyone ever introduced extra stimulus to their chicks to prevent boredom and thus pecking? I was thinking...
Hi everyone.
Anyone here have experience with 250 watt heat lamps (red bulb, R40). I have 4 of them (25 chicks per lamp). Our night time temps are 20-30 degrees Fahrenheit and day time is 60-70. The coop has no insulation value but its free from breezes/draft. I'm using a 6" thick layer of...
I'm wondering how much light (via LED tube lights) everyone gives their broilers/Cornish cross through their lifespan. How much light should I give them in their 1st week, 2nd week, 3rd.... etc.. Should I leave some areas of the brooder a bit darker? My brooder will be 8' x 12' for 100 day olds...
Im getting 100 Cornish cross in a couple of weeks. How much chick grit would I need to make available to them? What's the best way of giving them the grit? And roughly how much would they consume each week (pounds?)? Can I give grower grit once they reach a certain size/age?
