Ok I have raised a few batches of meat chickens but haven’t had any be sickly, until this batch. My question is when is too sick to process, safely? I have one with hip displacement or broken leg. And another with discolored comb who seems to be struggling, I am thinking his heart is given out...
Ok this is the runt of all my newest chicks. Picked up a few different breeds and I am not sure if she is a Amberlink or a Buff Orpington any thoughts?
Looking for a bit of advice. I have 7 egglayers my wonderful barred rock girls, but am interested in starting some meat raising. Just got the ok to start a coup for the meat birds but am wondering what type. We culled the roaster we obtained when we got our “straight run” and butchering was not...
so one of my wonderful barred rocks is laying giant double yolks. I am assuming the first huge egg I got is a double and the one I got this am, that I cracked open to enjoy, is. So my question is will she always lay double yolks or is this just a fluke?
I have 7 barred rocks about 4/5 months old. I have one who seems to have her laying down to a science. But the others not so much. Got 4 eggs for the first time today, but two were soft and one had some color irregularities. Any thoughts? It is the second time I have had the irregular colored egg.
Not sure if this change to the girls poop is normal or not . So background is , I have 7 barred rocks all about 4 months old, some have started laying , free range during the day, cooped at night, we have cherry trees with dropped cherries . Now a days I’m finding this poop. Anything to be...
first time chicken mom and we have 7 barred rock pullets. They are somewhere around 16 weeks old ( maybe a bit older got them from TS). The girls are free range until they put themselves in the coup in the evening and I’m wondering what behavior I should look for. (We have one Roo is is starting...
Not sure if it’s truly blood or not but noticed it when checking for eggs. The egg in picture is a fake egg and the pullers haven’t laid any yet. The are barred rocks around 15-16 weeks. No one seems to be acting oddly. They are free ranged and eat organic feed.
I got a run of 8 female barred rocks or so I thought. Quickly one stood out from the rest. Thought for sure I had myself a roo. But he still isn’t making any noise do I really have a roo? They are about 14-15 weeks. any input would be welcomed.
Ok when we got our flock of females one roo snuck in. We don’t want to breed and these are barred rocks, so dual purpose. The plan is to cull the roo. But how do you know when? I don’t want a surprise when we finally start to get eggs. But I want to allow enough time for good growth. Any...
Ok these girls are my first chickens and I’m not sure if the loss is normal or something wrong. I have barred rocks who are roughly 13-15 weeks old, they have no bald spots that I can see but there coup has a lot of feathers all over. ? Any advice?
So I’m a new chick mom and my daughter has now insisted that we feed our 8 barred rock chicks, only non GMO food anyone have some insight on this? I love the idea of organic not full of chemicals
