The rest of the crew...sex/breed questions

Since I'm fairly new to chickens, I'm sort of testing myself and what I have learned on BYC...so let's see if your expert opinions match up to what I am thinking. First the Reds... What type of reds are they? RIR's, Production Reds, or something else????? (They are hatchery stock if that helps)...

What type of Red is she?

After seeing all the pics of RIR's on BYC...I have determined that the RED's we got from TSC last year are not RIR's like I assumed. So what type of RED is she?

What does DE stand for and what is it used for?

I hope I posted this in the right section. I'm still kinda new to raising chickens. I've seen DE mentioned in a lot of threads, but I am still not sure what it is and what it is used for. We were about to go to TSC to pick up some chicken supplies and wanted to look for some in case I need it.

My family will think I've lost my mind...but

I know you will understand! My "teenage" chicks (4 week olds) were outgrowing their Rubbermaid tote that I was brooding them in...they're not quite ready to go outside with the adult chickens, and in spite of my pleading for DH to build something temporary for them, he hasn't yet....sooooo...I...

    EE crosses

I know EE's aren't really a pure breed, but I'm just wondering. If you cross an EE roo with another breed of hen - (in my case WL's and RIR's) are the chicks mutts or EE's?

How soon can I feed the newborn?

This may seem like a silly question, but here goes...I'm new to hatching. I know chicks can go for a few days without eating once they hatch, but how soon CAN I put some chick starter in the brooder. Is 2 hours old too soon? (I had to take it out of the bator due to a poor design)

    What are we?

I thought this one was a RIR, but now that it is getting feathers it looks different than the other two chicks we got of that color. Someone said this may be a barred rock or an australorp when it was still a fuzzybut...not sure..or is it a BSL roo? I thought maybe it has enough feathers to...

Question for those that let their chickens come in the house..

This might be a silly question, but....I've seen that a lot of you let your chickens come in the house. How do you keep them from pooping all over the place? I would love to have at least one special chicken out of our flock that was allowed to come inside.

Any ideas what this little cutie is?

Sorry its blurry. They just don't want to hold still. I'm guessing BSL..but I know nothing except what I've learned on here in the last couple of weeks.

    New Chicks!

Just got back from the Feed Store. They got their chicks in this morning! I got the coolest looking chick out of the lot! One of the ladies there was calling it Mr Cool, and said I would need to take pictures of it when it was grown so she could see it. I didn't tell her I hope Mr Cool turns...

    Hello from Georgia

I've spent a lot of time on here in the last 2 weeks, so I decided to join. I was a vet tech for 11 yrs. (dogs and cats). I became disabled with a neurological condition in 2006, so I am home all the time now. My husband raised chickens when he was a kid and I have always been interested. We...
