Mice in the House, not in the coop...

Hi everyone, We have mice in the house. They chewed through the electrical wires and the fan mount on our oven. Jerks. We tried some sticky traps to no avail. Poison stations have been purchased but I worry a bit about our chickens finding a poisoned dead mouse in the yard. Any advice? Thanks!

    Bullying Behavior?

Hi there, We got 3 Barred Rock chicks in June. Two are laying but one has always been a bit smaller and has taken more time for her comb to redden etc. We are getting an egg a day from the two bigger ones, but not the smallest one (Dexter.) Maybe 2 weeks ago, the biggest hen (Wingman) started...

    Beak Injury

Hi everyone, Our poor girl seems to have nasty beak injury. She is a 5 month old Barred Rock. I noticed it when I was giving the ladies some scratch. She is one of 3. Obviously, it looked very painful for her to try to eat it. It's windy today so the ladies went back into their coop. I...

    Sleeping in Nesting Boxes

Hi everyone, We have three 3 month old Barred Rocks. When I first moved them out to the coop, we kept the 2 nesting boxes closed off. I recently opened them and the ladies are now sleeping in one of them. One gets in fully and the other 2 get their front ends in and roost on the edge. Lots of...

Hi there, Our 2 month-old, fully feathered chicks (barred rocks) are spending their 3rd night in their coop. The temp is only supposed to drop to 77 degrees and rain is in the forecast. They have one big window that's propped open (hinged at the top) and they like to roost in front of it. (...

    Advice on Coop Windows

Hi everyone! We are in the midst of building the coop for our 4 week-old chicks. (Can't wait to get these girls out of the house and into their own space!) We are stuck on choosing the window. Our current choices are: 1) Using an old sash window we found (a little too big for the space, I...

    City Chickens!

Hello! My 13 year old daughter has always wanted chickens and finally decided to go for it! We have three barred rock chicks happily chirping in the brooder. They were hatched on June 11. Two of them seemed to have the beginnings of pasty butt but a little soak seemed to take care of it. This...
