On 4/11 I received an order of chicks from Cackle, hatched 4/10.
- 4/11: 2 were DOA
- 4/13: 1 was lethargic since her arrival her, and she finally died. Same breed as the two DOA.
- 4/12 pm: another chick looked like it broke its neck. It was writhing on its back and when I set it on its feet...
I got an order from Cackle Thursday. Two blue silkies were DOA, then a third died Friday night. Also last night I found a blue polish with what must have been a broken neck. It was awful and I culled it immediately. Maybe she jumped on the heater plate and fell off on her head. I’m sad to have...
Hello Chicken Experts!
I’ve converted an old quasi-barn, with two cinder block stalls, into two predator proof coops.
#1 - 6’x8’
#2 - 20’x8’, I finished this last weekend. I’m proud of the nesting boxes I made, although the actual boxes need to be installed.

Any guesses on these two blue chicks? They came from a mixed pack sent to a local breeder. She said the long legged one (pasty butt) might be a Cochin because of the leg feathers, but look at those legs!!
On the right #1:
On the left #2:
The blue chick is 1.5 days old and the smaller, black chick is 24 hours old. Why does the smaller one have the almost bald spot in her back? Its’ feathers are not like other chicks, they are small and not soft. Is this normal?
They are both F2 OE, same Roo different Mums.
Thanks in advance.

I found my ~11 week old pullet with droopy wings and blood on one of her wings from being pecked on by the 6 eight month olds. The wing didn’t look bad enough for her sickly appearance, but then I noticed her vent was white and bloody. The hens needed water. Two days prior...
