    22 Weeks - 18 Hens - 22 Eggs total

I am at a loss. I anticipated that I would be farther along in my egg production than I am now. I know they will lay on their own good time, but this is getting a bit odd. I do have one interesting note to add. One of my girls actually lays her eggs while roosting and then the egg rolls down...

    Conveyor Belt Poop Shoot

I am thinking of a remodel of my interior. I am going to place my roost bar (2" x 4" x 14") to run down the middle of my coop near the apex of the roof. I am thinking of building a conveyor poop board right underneath it and have it dump outside my end door into a wagon. Thoughts?

7 WK old runt that has issue

This is my 7 week old runt. She is a 1/3 of the size as all the others. The issue I have with her is that she has no tail feathers and has a very liquid poo matted in the feathers she does have. She has a HORRIBLE STENCH to her as well. Can smell her coming. She eats and drinks and seems to...

Getting them OUT of their coop

i was wondering about how to get my chicks to leave the coop. I ah e have it open for about 4 straight days and only a few (3) have touched the ground and only a total of 6 have made it past the door (out of 22). I need to do some cleaning and I don’t want to stress them out either. Should I...

    Now what's next?

Many of you have been following my threads: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/ok-cant-rebuild-what-are-my-options-realistic-please.1282037 My girls seem to like their new home: and thanks to so many of you, I have survived. But my question is this: What do I do now? Are there more...

OK, Can't rebuild, what are my options (Realistic Please)

Many have shared concerns with the coop I built. I guess the all the research I did didn't do me very well. I can't rebuild, so what can I do to salvage it. It measures (interior) 3' x 13'. I still need to put the egg retreival doors (6" circles behind each nesting box) clean out door on far...

Moving my Baby Girls to the coop early?

I recently posted a thread about whether I’m on track with my girls. I am brand spanking new to this and I was supposed to get only 15 RIR, but I ended up with 23. The common theme from the responses was that my girls are going to outgrow their brooder faster than I expected. Some I believe...

    Chicken or the Egg?...My Mission...LOL

FIRST TIMER FROM OMAHA NEBRASKA (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I am very new to chickens. I recently found out that our neighborhood covenants were actually expired and the HOA couldn't get enough homeowners to agree to renew them. With the covenants you could...

    Am I on track?

I am a BYC Rookie and I have 23 RIR chicks and they were a week old last Wednesday. I have them in a large kiddie pool (4 foot across) with 2 lamps, 2 feeders (now hanging off the floor) and 2 waterers. I just put a 3 foot wire fence (is that tall enough?) around the perimeter in preparation...

    Starting Week 2

I had 25 Rhode Island Reds, but we are down to 23. The rest seem in good health and are very active. The one question I have is this: How do you get them accustomed to you? They scatter when ever I come near. I have started whistling and moving slowly and the seems to keep them calm. I have...
