So! We recently got some chicks from TSC. Two chicks, the biggest ones, got my eyes. Their crests look like mohawks! They defiantly arent polish either. What breed are these two?
So, we recently got 10 chicks from our feed store. There is one Americauna that just stands around a lot of the time. Good poops, eating and drinking pretty good, but often I will find it just standing there.
Should I add electrolytes to the water or something?
So yesterday I went out to the coop to find what looked like a chicken massacre. Sadly, something had taken two of my chickens. This morning, another one was attacked. It wasn't that bad, just missing a good amount of feathers on her back. She also had a few puncture wounds though. I washed it...
So I made a post a couple days ago about how I thought my chicken was eggbound..
I did an epsom soak and put olive oil in her vent. I didn't feel anything though and she hasn't laid an egg. And I heard that it takes about 48 hours for them to die from being eggbound, and she's been like this for...
Hello.
One of my black sex link hens, Otulissa, is acting quite bad.
She's been like this for about 3 days. She sits on the roost all day, and never moves, which is very unusual. She usually runs right up to me. She also sometimes lets me pick her up, and she usually never lets me.
She has no...
I'm going to be ordering a small number of chicks soon, and my two options are Meyers and Hoover's. Looking for personal reviews on either, or which you preferred if you've ordered from both. Also if you have any links for past reviews on Meyers and Hoover's (I've read almost all the threads on...
So, let's say you have some chickens that don't have enough calcium, so they aren't laying. You know how people say if their combs are red they are ready to lay?
Well, does that mean age or actually laying? If they aren't laying because of a calcium deficiency, would their combs still be red...
I don't know if this is the right forum, but none of the others seemed to look like it would fit. Sorry if this post is out of place.
So, it's basically winter, and we've never had as much green algae in our pond. It's just a sudden outburst, and it's quite weird. The only change we've made is...
So, my hens do NOT like hay/shavings in their nest boxes. They just push it all out instead of sitting on it and laying. Even with fake eggs in there, the push all that out to lay. This makes many cracked eggs. Is there anything different I can do or a way to make them deal with it??
Hello!
So, I've been lurking for a looong time here. I've decided to finally join! Some things about me:
1. I'm not new to chickens. I started chicken keeping 10 years ago but also took care of my family's chickens as a child all the time.
2. Currently, I have 8 chickens in all. (1 rooster, 7...
Hello everyone!
Long time lurker, first-time poster here. I was browsing through the forums when I saw something about a lame chicken, which reminded me of a question I've been thinking of.
A while back, I had just moved a new flock of chickens into my coop with 2 older chickens also living...
