Looking to purchase one or two French guineas to process and eat. I can't eat chicken, so am looking for alternatives. Have tried most other birds, which I have been able to find at stores or butchers in the area, but guinea seems non-existant here. Can travel most anywhere in western WA or...

Stumped. Thought it was scaly leg mite, now not sure. Thoughts?

A week ago I noticed the hens in one of my coops had small wounds on their legs that looked like they had been scraped or pecked. Within 24 hours all five hens had it to some extent. I originally thought scaly leg mites, even though none of the scales are lifted. I have been treating it for five...

Celadon (Blue Egg) Coturnix quail roo *FREE*

This little guy is about 12 weeks old. He is Tibetan colored with white "whiskers", so is probably actually a tuxedo. He is homozygous for the celadon gene. I'm rehoming him because I've come to the conclusion that I have too few hens (four) and too small of hutch for him to safely stay with my...

I don't want anyone else to get scammed like I did! I tried to purchase hatching eggs via the website for Rocky Hammock Farm. I placed the order online, got a confirmation email, and waited to hear about a ship date, which was supposed to be within seven days. After ten days I sent an email...

    Color question

Not sure if this is the right place to ask a color question, but seemed the best fit. I have a black silkie cockerel that has grown in neck feathers with silver tips. Is there a technical term for this coloration? Would it be considered ticking?

Nurture Right 360 and Room Temps

For those that use the Nurture Right 360, how has it faired in cooler rooms? The instructions say to use in a room that is 74-80°F, and never below 72°F, but I don't know anyone that keeps their house that warm, especially overnight, and we certainly don't.

Decreased "drive" after 1st breeding season?

Has anyone noted a decrease in their coturnix roo's sex drive/ behavior after the first breeding season? I ask because I have a roo that I had to separate from the five hens he was with because he was always chasing and mounting them, pulling feathers, and causing injuries. I want to know if he...

Coturnix Quail w/ Celadon Genes - Blue Eggs!

I have a four-week-old rosetta Coturnix quail roo with Celadon (blue egg laying) genes. He is from a breeder that has only birds with the Celadon gene, from two different lines, so he should be homozygous for the gene. He has just started crowing and producing foam. I have handled him every day...

    Long-term Gasping, no other symptoms

    Do quail miss flying?

Just a late night philosophical question: do you think quail miss flying when we clip their wings or house them with a low ceiling? I know we do those things for their safety, so don't take this as an argument against those practices.
