I just wanted to share how well my Belgian D’uccle is maturing! The first picture is right after showing her this last fall, where she was 4 months old. The rest of the picture are of her now, nearly 10 months old! She won first last year, and I’m hoping she will do the same this fall!
Does anyone know what breed this chicken is? This picture is of me when I was 4-5, and this was one of my favorite chickens named raccoony (because she ‘looked like a raccoon’). She lived to be 12-15. I’m not sure what color eggs she laid, but we used to get light brown, medium brown, cream...
Hi! I feed my layers 1/4 a pound per chicken per day, but I have this one Cornish cross that I have no idea how much to feed, as he always seems hungry. He was supposed to be a laying hen, but the store gave me him instead . He’s about 20lbs and I’m currently feeding him 1.5lbs per day (6...
I am building a coop for my chickens and it is 48”x30”x36”. Only problem I’m worried about is ventilation. It can get -20°F here and I don’t want it to get too cold in the coop. It will only be 2 Belgian d’uccles in the coop, so would only a few small holes work? In the past I’ve had coops with...
I am new to bantams, and I wanted to know if they will need heat for the winter?
I have 2 Belgian d’uccles, and the coop I am building is 48”x30” with a 48”x3’ run. It’s movable but will be in one spot for the winter. The question is, will they need heat since it’s only the two birds? Or should...
Bought a white rock HEN as a 4 week old chick back in April. Well, turns out HE is actually a Cornish cross ROOSTER. Just weighed him and he’s 11lbs at 19 weeks old. He hasn’t started crowing, only a few which just sounded like an owl a few weeks ago, nothing since. Can’t have roosters here so...
I have this chicken, I don’t know what breed, I think Rhode Island Red or red ranger, but I have no idea if it’s a hen or rooster. It doesn’t fight with my Cornish cross rooster, they are best friends, which is why I’m leaning towards hen, but I’m not sure. They are 18 weeks old. Also, if anyone...
i went to bring out my Cornish cross rooster, and then I was covered in chicken lice. I’m not sure how I didn’t notice him having lice before, since he’s out almost every day, but I can only assume with that many that he’s had it for a few days.
My bantams (which are currently living in the...
I’ve raised chickens all my life for egg laying, but this year when I bought a new flock (got rid of previous due to moving where they weren’t allowed but now moved again to a place they are allowed) I got a show line pullet. I intend on showing, but I have no idea what I’d need to do?
Does...
I was sold this bird as a white rock hen, but She’s always looked more like a Cornish cross? She’s about 9 weeks today and 5.3lbs
Also, does she look more like a pullet or cockerel? I’m leaning more towards cockerel but they both seem to have big crowns?
I’ve read that d’uccles are supposed to have red eyes, but my supposed ‘show quality’ chick has blue/green? Do they change over time? I’m new to show chickens, I’ve only ever raised mixed and Rhode Island reds for eggs
Hi! I’m just starting up my coop again after moving, and I wanted to add 1-2 Belgian d’anver bantam hens to my flock. I would prefer lavender Belgium d’anvers, but i’d Also be interested in some other colors
I am located in Connecticut, so if anyone is/knows a breeder, please let me know!
Hi! It was recommended to make an introduction so here it is!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I had 12 chickens while I was growing up in my childhood home. Then we got 4 a few years later when those passed, and we had to give them away when we moved due to the...
