I have four peachicks that are a couple months old now and I have a good idea of their genders but I just want to make sure.
I was thinking the two in the lower right were females and the others were males judging by the barring on their feathers.
My silkie hen has been getting thinner and thinner and you can feel her bones. Her crop is empty but she’s acting pretty lively besides mostly staying inside. She’s eating. She just got done being broody do could that be it? She’s my favorite chicken and I’m really scared for her
She’s eating...
I just picked up some hens and when I got home I realized that they’re feet looked HORRIBLE. Toe tips missing and entire toes having by a thread. One of the hens is really hesitant to put weight on one foot and it seems very painful. I don’t think there’s much I can do but how can I make them...
I went outside and heard a little chick peeping and when I went to check, his head was being picked by it’s mother. Both sides were fluff less, and caked blood all around. I snatched him up quick but I stopped because I saw an egg on the ground, half zipped and membrane all dry and brown. There...
I’ve always thought this guy was a roo but now I’m beginning to doubt it. He doesn’t have nearly as large wattles as my six week olds and he’s a few months old. Thoughts?
Six week old cockerel for comparison:
I have four peachicks that are around a a month old and I was wondering whether I would be able to let them out of their pen to roam without them wandering away? I was thinking even just in the evenings so that they wouldn't' have much chance to wander off. Therese a feral flock that lives near...
I found some nests with a few eggs in it and collected the eggs and wanted to know if there was any chance they may hatch if I incubated them. I candled them and all showed no sign of development, and when cracked open they had no odor. There is 20+ ducks at this pond, and there’s been... you...
I have five hens and one rooster in my main flock, and they are all becoming a bit scraggly on their backs, necks and wings. I think it might be the rooster but I wanted some second opinions. One of the hens is missing barely any feathers at all.
I have a group of three roosters, and usually two are penned sand the dominant one goes out with the girls. Would it be ok if say, once a month, I switched out roosters with the hens to get more of a variety of chicks because right now I’m only getting white laced Wyandotte mixes. I have my...
Yep. A peacock egg. I’m pretty sure it’s no good since I found it out in the open and nothing inside when candled, but in thought it was worth a try. I might try to find the nest later on today. Thoughts?
I went out to the chicks pen yesterday where they were being contained while able to explore, since it’s warm out, and I found a dead chick. Dirt I it’s mouth, but no obvious cause of death. Now this morning I put them out and when I checked later, another dead one and one crouched on the floor...
Dang it. Don’t you hate it when your chicks have been looking good cockerel wise, non red combs, perfectly pullet looking, and then you check in them later in the day, BOOM. It happens. Your beautiful “pullets” have transformed into beautiful cockerels. Red combs everywhere. Had it happen today...
I’ve been catching my Frizzled Cochin rooster sitting where the hens lay their eggs and when I get too close he puffs up, growls, and pecks at my hand. He always gets up but I thought it was strange. Is there any explanation for this or is he just wierd?
Hi! Im looking for a “starter flock” of Silkies. I only have one silkie right now and she’s lonely so I want to get her some friends. Chicks would work too but I prefer adults because I’m overrun with chicks. I’m located in the Albuquerque area of New Mexico. Any answers are appreciated!
Yesterday my only silkies bum was picked by all the other hens in my flock. When I initially found her, she was bleeding a lot, but it looked ok. So I put some peroxide on it and it stopped bleeding a few minutes later. Today, she’s wandering around the house, and there’s a faint smell coming...
I have it his one silkie hen that’s been alone since her rooster died, and I want to integrate her into my main flock. Problem is, they don’t accept her, and she think of me as her rooster. Therefore she follows me around all day. She’s lonely because since she has no flock, she’s overbred by...
