Lost a Silkie chick and worry about cocci

We had a 5 day old Silkie chick that started out strong and active, but then went downhill in the last 2-3 days of it's life. The chick got sleepier and sleepier. At first we just assumed it was tired from growing and we fondly named it Briar (as in Sleeping Beauty, Briar Rose). The last 1.5...

    Could she pull through?

We had a hatching EE chick last evening that looked like it was drowning as it was trying to unzip. Apparently, the humidity was too high (incubator not reading accurately) and it was blowing bubbles from its mouth, so we decided to assist. This was the last egg and figured it wouldn't survive...

    Drunk chick?

Baby Ayam #3 hatched, but had to be assisted due to the membrane drying out and turning dark quickly. It seemed weak so I was advised to give it warm milk, which I did every 30 mins for about 2-3 hours. It seemed to rally, but it's quite unsteady and keeps falling backwards on its back. It...

    Dark membrane under pip

We have an Ayam egg pipped and the membrane is getting dark. We put a small swipe of coconut oil on it and raised the humidity. The chick is chirping. Should we do anything else or wait and see?

We have our first 2 chicks!

A little over 24 hours ago, our first Ayam chick hatched and then almost 24 hours after that, our #2 hatched. We have #1 in the brooder because s/he seemed distressed after 24 hours and for whatever reason, the 21 eggs are hatching far apart from each other. Anyway, we bumped up the humidity...

    Death ring?

We found 2 Ayam eggs with indisputable death rings, but my husband and I are unsure on this egg. We're finding it harder to tell with the Easter Eggers. Is this a death ring?

    Newbie mistake 😔

So we picked up Easter Egger eggs today (48 of them). The seller does have a rooster, but they couldn't guarantee anything. They were selling them as eating eggs, but we decided it would be a good first try in our incubator. When we got them, they were cold...so obviously refrigerated. We got...

    Hello from Atlantic Canada!

We have wanted to have chickens for years, but due to a lot of traveling, we never had the chance until now. We bought a farmhouse that originates from the early 1800's and while not all the original land still belongs to the house, we still have a little over 1.5 acres. We picked up 2...
