The blue gal? Is a egg I hatched from a silver laced red Wyandotte hen and a blue Cochin rooster. The splash of red on the wing just popped. Interested to see how she grows up.
Any guesses on what this 11 week old chick might be? Mom is an Olive egger and rooster is a barred rock. As a hatchling this chick had a black spot on it’s head so I thought pullet but understand with mixed breeds that does not count. It is a spunky chicken always ready to square off.
Hello all, I am new to the Ameraucana breed. I have two that I hatched 11 weeks ago. Do you think this is a pullet or cockerel? Really sweet, curious birds. Thank you for your help.
From my research these little chicks look like a pair to me but at three weeks old may still too soon. What do ya’all think? #2 is feathering in much slower.
Hello wise chicken peeps! What do you think about these two birds? Pullets? One is an Olive egger and other is a Black Copper Maran. They are 5 weeks old. Appreciate the help!

I have a six week old Cochin mix chick that has started walking strange. I noticed today when I let chickens out the chick is walking by lifting one leg up much higher than the other. It is almost like it is dislocated or something. Also the chicks head has not feathered out. This is different...
I have a broody Cochin hen sitting on four eggs. I attempted to break her of broodiness as Winters in Bend, Oregon are cold. Did not work so here we are. Fingers crossed Mother Nature knows best and mama will keep chicks warm. Best I can tell she has been sitting on eggs in favorite nesting...
I have two buff polish that are seven weeks old, hatched on May 18. One has always been bigger than other and more curious. Today I noticed some pink showing up under the crest. I think I might have my first polish cockerel! What do you think? Photo #1, 2 and 4 are of Cheddar Biscuit which is...
Hello all! Curious if anyone can wager a guess if these two Blue Cochins are a pullet or cockerel? They are 6 weeks old and have completely won our hearts. Thank you in advance for your expertise. :jumpy
I have a 7 week on Barred Rock with what I believe to be peck wounds on each side of head. I noticed them and thought it was just red from wattle growth or possibly ears? This morning spots are bigger and really red. I have not witnessed any pecking but don’t know why wounds are worsening. My...
My sweet Polish pullet shocked me this morning with her aggressive behavior. I take treats of greens and herbs out most mornings when I let my flock of 6 out of their coop. My polish is usually the first to come running and get her treat as soon as she hears my voice. She is happy getting her...
Dumplin’ was purchased on 3/26 in a Bantam Silkie Straight Run bin at Coastal Farm Supply. I am new to Silkies and have no idea if at 5 weeks the sex can be determined? Please take a guess!
Hello chicken sexing experts!
Take a gander at this beautiful 5 week old Blue laced Red Wyandotte and tell me if it’s too pretty to be a pullet? The feather colors are so vibrant and this chickie is the most stand-offish of the flock. I have my suspicions it is a cockerel? I included a photo...
Greetings!
I went out to my coop to take my 7 week old pullets a cilantro treat and found a dead mouse in the run with its ear missing. Mice carry all kinds of diseases! Gross.
Do I need to be concerned for the birds? Any ideas what I should be on the lookout for?
Any advice will help my...
Good afternoon! I have a flock of six, six to eight week old pullets. I originally was looking for Cochin hens when I started my flock. I was unable to find any at that time so I began the chick journey instead. It’s been a great quarantine activity and am so happy I did. Love my gals. As luck...
Hello Backyard Chicken friends!
My family and I recently moved onto five acres with an existing coop. It may be Spring in Bend, Oregon but our temperatures will continue to dabble in the high 20’s at night for awhile longer. We have a brooder set up in the coop with multiple heat lamps for our...
