Hi! Sorry if this is co fusing I’m rushing. So, we gave our broody Cochin some Easter egg we chicks about 2 or 3 weeks ago, now they are going to bed but she keeps pecking them and pulling out feathers and has no intention of sitting on them anymore, she I guarding her food ect. She is acting...
I am very confused on cochin growing times, some people say they fully grow in a year, some in two years.. Anyways anybody know when a bantam cochin would be fully grown, like laying eggs and going broody?
So I have two female Cochins (2 weeks old) and they are both black, but one has reddish/orange tips. Ive looked everywhere but can't find anything on that coloring.. The other one is fully black. Thanks!
I would love a few Cochins, colors don't matter. Im in PA so I wouldn't mind driving a few hours. Don't worry I will make sure we social distance! if anybody has chicks hatching soon or any that are a few weeks old I would love to get some!
So, I have a broody Oegb and this is her first year, and first time being broody. She has 6 eggs, two of which have already hatched. She pecked them in the head and they bled. We are new to this so we put them back under her and she was content with sitting on the chicks until one came out she...
Dont know what thread I did but I am very nervous. Broody hen hatch day was today, her first year, 2 out of 6 eggs today. When checked on chicks were both bloody and thrown from under her. When I took the chicks mom got all angry, so after a few minutes I put the back in the nest. She was happy...
I just read the "integrating chicks at 4 weeks" and would love to try it, already have a perfect brooder built for that, but here's my dilemma, my hens are free range. As reading in the article it says they would not go in at dusk and that worries me they would not go in. I've integrated hens...
For my brooder box I have a heat lamp, or I could use something that would simulate a mother chick, like a heat mat or something of that sort. I've read that broody hen's chicks go broody more often. While chicks raised in a brooder box and heat lamp do not go broody as often. Any insight would...
When I candled my eggs two days ago (day 12) They looked a day or two behind. How could that have happened under a broody hen, she had been moved and a whole day to settle down. The next day I counted as her first day. Are bantam eggs different looking than standard eggs?
I have heard a lot that breed is a huge factor in broody hens. So, when you get a hen from a hatchery they have most likely made that hen one that will not likely become broody, because of egg laying reasons. I have a few hens that were raised by a friends hen, all of those hens have gone...
So my broody hen is on day 13, almost 14. Her eggs are due to hatch from the 24th to the 27th as they are bantam eggs and could hatch between 18-21 days. We are getting 12 hatchery chicks on the 22nd, which would probably be around the age of day 2. So the earliest the chicks would hatch under...
Something got into our chicken tractor with our broody hen. Her and her eggs are thankfully safe but we are moving her tonight to a brooder box with a wood floor (with shavings). The chicken tractor has a grass area for her, the brooder box does not. Do you think she will settle down ok? Her...
Alright, so we have a broody hen expecting chicks next Friday on the 24th and we also have 12 hatchery chicks coming on the 22nd. So we are making a brooder box for the hen when the chicks hatch so she has a nice place to get re established with the flock. With the extra chicks coming what...
So, I have an old English game bantam broody and is sitting on 11 eggs day 10! Eggs are healthy, hen healthy but when I went to do a once a week candle, she didn't peck me or really care I was taking eggs from her. She is in a chicken tractor separated from the flock. I am worried that because...
Hey guys, I’m new here and I have an oegb broody hen, she has 11 eggs and i was told to candle them all at day 8 to throw out the bad ones, all seemed good. But then as I was candling some of them rolled around, do you think they will be ok? Thanks! This is also my first broody hen!
