Hi all,
Can everyone please post their best tips for keeping chickens and coops cool in the summer heat? My poor silkies seem to struggle with anything over 30 degrees, no matter how much water, shade etc..I provide.
I’m thinking of installing a small fan in the coop (wooden cubby house style)
I want to use some of this in my chicken dust bath to deter mites. Does anyone know where I can buy it in Melbourne please? Interstate postage is pretty hefty. Bunnings don’t stock it unfortunately.
I have been wondering why my four silkie bantams are losing weight, not laying and suddenly refusing to go into the coop at night. Tonight I saw an infestation of red mites on the nesting boxes and perches. I am a chicken newbie and I don’t know what to do.
For tonight I have moved my girls...
See this has put me off trying to sex silkies!
Almost everyone agreed that my silkie was definitely a cockerel, given its large comb and wattles.
But ‘he’ just laid an egg. Either I have a (circus bound) male egg layer or a very male looking silkie. 😂😂
Has anyone else had hens that look so...
Hi all,
I have four silkie hens. I notice that two have flat walnut shaped combs (see the white hen) and two have completely different combs- sort of thin and wavy. Can anyone shed any light on this please?
This is my five month old silkie. I am praying she’s a ‘she’ but her wattles and comb are quite developed. She is bossy and paces up and down in quite an agitated way. She is also loud but it’s a chicken clucking noise, not a crow. I’m so confused 🤯.
Please give me your best guess 🙏🏻
