    Polish sexing

I have 2 5 week old white crested splash polish babies. They're supposed to be sexed pullets, but one is giving me suspicions... She's starting to get a slight pink tinge to her face and wattles. Her poof is still growing in so that might be why it's so spiky-looking, but her sister's looks more...

    Bantam cochin- male or female?

We have an almost 4 week old bantam mottled cochin which was sold to us from Meyer as a pullet, but I'm doubtful. She has had veeery slow feather growth and still has odd patchy wings, and recently her comb has started to grow a bit. It's only pinkened slightly, but you can see the starts of...

Could mystery chick be an opal legbar?

2 weeks ago we received an order of 8 chicks from Meyer Hatchery. We ordered a mottled cochin bantam, a bantam steele egger, a bantam easter egger, a bantam green queen, a bantam white crested black polish, 2 white crested splash polish, and the Meyer "meal maker". We've had some difficulty...

    suspicious "pullets"

I have a few almost 5 week old chicks and the two I'm suspicious of are a Buff Orpington and a Sapphire Olive Egger. All were supposed to be sexed pullets but we know how Tractor Supply is (ha). The Sapphire Olive Egger I'm no longer as sus of as I used to be as she was the smallest chick in the...

    chick lethargic, one eye closed

hey, i just noticed this afternoon that one of my 4 week old easter egger chicks is acting weird: she keeps falling asleep standing up even when all of her siblings are running around, and most of the time she keeps her right eye closed. she also always has especially watery poops (none of the...

    Infectious bronchitis in chicks? help!

So we just got new chicks, 4 were shipped and arrived on Tuesday (one runty one did not make it.) We bought 4 more on Thursday from our local Tractor Supply, and we now have 7 active chicks. pullet traumatized after predator attack- how to help?

unfortunately this morning a predator (likely a mink or weasel) got into the chicken run and killed 5 of our 6 chickens. we have one 4-5 month old pullet left who only suffered what appears to be two slight puncture wounds on her back (we've cleaned out the wounds and put an ointment on them, if...

is my chicken a pullet or roo?

hey all! we have 3 chicks that are now a little over 3 months old. one seems like a definite roo, one seems like a definite pullet, and one really confuses me. we were sold this chick as an easter egger pullet (which she may or may not be because the so called "black sex link" turned out to be a...

    what breed is my chick?

so we got the chick in question at tsc from a bin that was labeled "black sex link pullets", but the more she grows the more i think she's not a sex link, lol. she's now almost 2 weeks old, and she's huge, for one, considerably larger than our other two chicks (easter egger and cream legbar)...

    weird RIR hen

not sure if this is the right place for this, but i wanted to ask about one of my hens. this isn't really a "new" issue or anything as the hen in question is 3 years old, but i wanted to know if there's something wrong with her or if she's just a little different. here's the hen in question- her...

chick acting weird- neurological or just a little special?

hello, just got 4 baby chicks yesterday from the local tsc to add to our existing small flock of 3 three year old hens. one of the chicks seems a little odd- she walks funny (like waddling) which may be because she seems a little, well, wide. but she also keeps trying to get underneath the other...

    Don't know what to do

So my flock has had quite the journey. We started with 2 ducklings for our backyard flock. They were with us for about 4 weeks and then both got taken by a fox. We were very sad, then upped the security of our pen and got six silkie chicks. 4 are roosters, and one of the girls died from a...

Free high quality young silkie cockerel

Handsome young paint silkie rooster free, he is very sweet and tame, but not a fan of being held. He is 10-12 weeks old, already crowing (but it's not screechy or anything). Located in Montgomery County, Maryland. I will post updated pics tomorrow, but here are some of his chick pics.

    My chick is acting weird

One of my chicks are acting some what lethargic and different than normal. She is not participating in all the "chick activities" that all the others are doing. We feed them medicated feed, so it shouldn't be coccidiosis. Do you think she is sick, or am i overreacting? Could it be I am feeding...

How to bond with my chicks?

Hi, I'm new here and i just got 6 silkie chicks. They are going to be pets, and I want them to at least tolerate me. They run away from me all the time, and will not take treats from my hand. They don't really seem to be interested in treats at all. They are 6ish weeks old. Thanks!
