We got a new batch of chicks this spring and they just started to lay (about two weeks ago). Last night one of the eggs had clearly been pecked at and eaten. We have never had this issue with our chicks and I want to get ahead of it early, any tips?

This is Thornton in the front with the large comb. Early on I thought Thornton might be a rooster because (she/he) was consistently larger than the rest and had comb development sooner as well. There were no other indicators from what I could tell such as pointed feathers or spurs...
