Day 24. We had an internal pip yesterday determined by candling. I gave an air hole 12 hours later. After 12 more hours peeled back shell only. I saw a bit of blood so stopped. Overnight there is more blood showing. No sign of chick absorbing veins in fact they seem larger. Should I cull...
My cream leg at has been looking bad. She lost feathers and felt really thin. I treated with corid, special feed gave rooster booster. I thought she was better but found her dead today. So I cut her open and found an air soft BB in her gizzard right at the opening. I felt so bad for her. Is it...
I got pullets and a sweet tufted Auracana rooster on may 5th fully feathered. I guesstimate them to be 6.5 to 7 months old. The rooster is doing his deed with all of the hens but I am not seeing a bullseye on any of the eggs. do you think it is a late maturing breed? I have had such bad luck...
I read somewhere chicken feet make good broth and are not to be wasted. But the article was lacking in the how to information. Do you pull the skin off of the feet before you make broth with them? Any tips are appreciated.
I need advice. This girl seemed fine yesterday. She is 9 mos old. No swelling feet. But is clean. Poop is good. Layed yesterday. She has a beginning bumble on her foot but it’s not swollen just a tiny flat scab. Any ideas are welcome.
I am trying to give the flock a boost of vitamins. The heat has stressed them and I want to make sure they don’t get sick. I mixed the 4oz per gallon per bottle instructions. It looks like syrup. Am I understanding and mixing this correctly?
Newbie concerned chick owner
Is it true that fat chickens don’t lay well? I feed 18% layer feed free choice and a few kitchen scraps not much. Free range a few hours a day. Someone told me to feed 1/2 cup per hen per day and no more and on the ground not in the feeder. What do you guys think about this advice?
I have two month old birds that have been kenneled through the cold. They layed in poop. Now they stink like crazy. Is it ok to bathe them? I am sure it will be an experience.
Feeding egg shells resulted in chickens eating eggs. I did everything just like people on the forum said. I baked them. I crushed them. I fed them only two times. I went from 9 eggs a day to 6. I saw the deleware peck the egg on my camera and when I got out there all the hens were eating it 😡
7 week old Chick with runny stinky poop slightly orange any advice? I bought them two weeks ago. They were like this from day one. See the photo. Yesterday the poop seemed like it was normal and today it was like this again. It seems stinkier than our last chicks poop was.
I ordered a flock last year that was vaccinated. And I added to the flock with local birds that were not vaccinated. The local breeder said we do not get Merricks in Louisiana and does not vaccinate for that But I am ordering again in spring from Illinois. So since the new birds are from...
I will have to plant something to give the girls shade n the covered yard. What trees or bushes do you think are not toxic and may double as a food source? Zone 8.
Hi,
I recently added three Copper Maran hens and 1 rooster to our flock. One of the hens developed Wry Tail. Since this is hereditary should we cull all four birds? They are very likely all closely related. Any advice is appreciated.
