I have one pretty sick hen (7 months old). Bad sour crop, can't even touch her crop without fluid coming out of her mouth. When I went to hold her she dribbled some fluid then choked for a second so I'm worried she aspirated :(
She had a poopy butt and very lethargic. Took her to vet, she...
I’ll be getting one like this. We will add 1 or 2 windows, and the ridges along the roofline allow airflow. But I’m also going to add some ventilation along the top of the walls. No overhang or soffit and need to maintain some structural support as well. Feel free to draw some ideas on the...
If Im adding vents to a solid coop, would I want to put them at the bottom or the top? (I'm thinking top, the builder does it at the bottom, so I wasn't sure). Thanks
***This isn’t my coop, I haven’t gotten mine yet. How would I add high vents without rain getting in? Adding, I have very...
Ordered a custom coop through a local feed store, but when it was delivered we realized they forgot to do half of the things we requested, and messed up a couple of the other things, so they picked it up today. Now I have 10 homeless chickens :-/. Probably going to have to buy a TEMPORARY set...
The feeders I was looking at getting say not to use until 12 weeks so what can I put out in the coop temporarily now? The feeders are used in the Brooder keep getting turned over and emptied out so I need some thing else thanks
My girls are moving into the coop soon and I need to get a waterer and feeder for out there. Was considering a nipple waterer but read a bit about them being hard to clean (well so is cleaning bedding out of water numerous times a day LOL) Thx
Right now I have a couple of the small mason jar type chick feeders & waterers in my brooders. What would be a good "next size up" feeder & waterer that I can put in the coop that is larger than what I have now yet still works for younger/smaller chicks?
I’m allergic to oyster shells and I read this page in my book that says egg shells alone are not enough. What else can I use? I am pretty sure the food ill be feeding also has added calcium (New country organics)
Anyone have cream Brabanters?
I got 2 new chicks and they are harassing the heck out of my bigger chicks (who are about 3 weeks old). I was so worried they would get picked on but they are the ones doing it lol. They are the tiniest little chicks too. I have the separated right now because my...
Hello, I am getting a 6x12 coop/run combo and need to add on some additional run space. Would something like premier 1 fencing with netting over the top work during the daytime for some extra space, or do I need to do a hardware cloth enclosure? (the coop & run are 1/2 x 1/2 hardware cloth).
Got five chicks, then about five days later I got my remaining three chicks. Store said they could go in the brooder together but the tiny ones got picked on so I separated them. I will be trying to merge together when they are around 4 & 3 weeks old respectively (according to what the store...
I'm reading on one site that the Orpington lays about 156 large brown eggs a year (this is what my local store had said also). But most other places I'm seeing it listed as 200-280 large brown eggs a year. Which is more accurate? Could there be a difference based on their lines? Just...
New chicken keeper ...
Was supposed to pick up a cream brabanter today but it was DOA sadly. I have the option to pick up a buff orpington or a cuckoo maran instead to round out my flock (3 Easter eggers, 1 black australorp, 1 welsummer, 1 barnevelder, 1 speckled sussex)
or I can wait and see...
So new chicken mom here, got my chicks on Monday, got a "starter cage kit" that my feed store was selling.....and I'm now realizing just how quickly chicks get big and there is NO way they will fit in this cage for several weeks. SMH. It's a small wire cage with a litter pan....think small...
I've asked 2 different places how much room I need for 6-8 chickens and one said a 6x8 coop/run combo, the other said a 6x10 coop run combo (this one has a coop that is 4x6 inside the 6x10 run). But everything I'm reading online looks like those would be too small. My girls can only free...
Hello,
I'm new to chickens, yesterday I picked up 3 Easter Eggers, 1 Black Australorp, 1 Welsummer and I'm waiting on my Speckled Sussex to come in on Friday.....I am considering adding a Barnevelder too. Would that be a good choice? Looking for a friendly, pretty, decent egg layer that gets...
