I let our six hens out this morning to see blood in the chicken coop. Our Welsummer hen has blood all over her comb. Can't figure out if she was pecked or what. All of the other hens are fine. She's walking around clucking.
How should we clean this? Any other insight? Thanks!
Our 9-month old Welsummer has a bare patch on the back of her neck. It looks like she may be molting but I wanted to check and see what you all thought. Her comb is also looking a bit more dull, and we haven't been getting any eggs from her the past few days. The other five hens went through a...
We got chicks this spring and also started raising mealworms. I'm in Idaho and it's starting to get into freezing temperatures at night. I have the mealworms in a large covered rubber tote on the patio. Do I need to move them into the attached garage to receive a bit more heat? Not sure what...
I have six hens and one rooster, all were born this spring. I've been consistently getting four to five eggs per day up until this week. I cannot figure out why the egg production is so low. It rained this weekend so at first I thought it might be the weather. They have a fully enclosed, dry...
Hi, we have seven hens and they just started laying. We were away from three days and came back to four eggs laid, the first eggs we've seen. Three days went by without any additional eggs, and today there was an egg that appears to be a compound egg with one larger egg (that was already...
I have five chicks of different varieties that are all seven weeks old. My Americauna chick is smaller than the others and I don't know if she is sick or has some other type of problem. She has all of her feathers, just is smaller than the others. The other chicks have only recently outpaced her...
Hi, we have six six-week old chicks (Welsummer, Barred rock, Rhode Island Red, Americauna, & Gold sex-linked) that have been living under a heat lamp in the unheated garage. We have been moving the chicks to their outdoor run for several hours at a time during sunny days that are in the 60s-70s...
Hello! I live in Idaho and just starting raising baby chicks. We have six chicks (barred Plymouth rock, gold sex linked, Winsummer, Americana, and Rhode Island Red). I am delighted by the chicks and excited to have a new hobby. My boyfriend and I both work from home right now and are enjoying...
I have six baby chicks that are all roughly three weeks old. My two barred Plymouth rocks are greatly different in size and one of them is so tiny. She is still developing her plumage patterns, but I believe she's about the same size as when we got her. All of the other chicks (including a...
