    New digs- girls hate

Got the shed up last weekend and poop shelf/roost bars in today. Even with mealworms- half the girls won’t go in. I am going to put sand down next and have two windows to install and vents. Any ideas on bribing them in?

These are under $9 each at Walmart right now and are a great size. Plus side: blast with a hose to clean them...

    Blue Marans- pullet or roo?

7 weeks old. Not sure what to think. The hatch mate was a boy straight up at about three weeks… this one just started to get more pink at 7 weeks. Thoughts?

    Ameraucana and Marans- any guesses?

I already am down three out of six chicks as males…. My splash marans was identifiable at three weeks, but this blue one, I am not sure? Also, the blue Ameraucana has me wondering…(last two photos, she is laying down) thoughts on pullets or cockerels? (Threw in the cockerel black Ameraucana and...

    Wyandotte confusion

I recently got 6 chicks. Ameraucana, Marans and a Wyandotte. Already had to rehome my beautiful splash marans as he showed male instantly. Wondering what the census is on my Wyandotte. 5 weeks. Looks like a black laced versus blue laced? Any insight is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

    Failure to thrive?

Picked up four chicks at TSC today. Noticed one that was face planted in the wood chips. The lady threw it in for free. I have tried electrolytes, egg yolk… it just isn’t getting its bearings.. any other advice? It seems to get up and flail around a little, tried to eat once. It does chirp when...

Well, two of my five girls has fowl pox. This is a first for me. I have read through everything and it looks like it just has to run its course. Any suggestions while we wait it out? Thank you 🫶

    Molting question

Fries looks to be molting for the first time. Does a polish molt it’s crest as well? I honestly don’t know 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Another Bumblefoot question

I am sorry I do not have a picture. My girl has Bumblefoot, I soaked it a couple days in a row and removed scab today, but there is no “plug” so to speak. Just kinda seems like regular foot meat. I decided not to dig and cut anything more, applied antibiotic ointment and wrapped up. Has anyone...

    Sleeping Al Fresco?

Is it odd that these two girls decided for the last week that they want to sleep in the run? (Fort Knox)

    Question for polish owners

I was under the assumption that maybe my polish Fries would lay a few eggs a week. She is overachieving and laying daily. Is this common for this breed? Was just surprised and curious where everyone else’s polish layers fell on the egg spectrum.

    One soft shell layer

So, I have a constant supply of calcium out for the girls- everyone is doing fine but one girl. She has been laying soft shelled eggs for about a week. One was a “rubber” egg- then since then I can’t even pick them up without the shell cracking. She is eating and doing everything else normal...

Olive- Easter- Starlight? Second guessing everything

So, I uploaded several pictures of our eggs and girls. I thought I had some sort of Easter eggers- (minus my dear sweet Fries the Polish of course), but now I am wondering what they are based on looking up pictures of other people’s girls. Are these starlights? Olive eggers? Easter? Four out of...

    Integration opinions

So fries has been in her cage in the main run for two days. I let her out and supervise them all within their run. Two of my girls peck her quite a bit. Normally I would be less concerned, except I don’t know health wise of fries can handle it after her hawk deal last Wednesday. Keeping her in...

    Fries update

It’s been a rough couple of days, but fries is taking fluids by mouth with a syringe tip and actually ate a couple pieces of crumble and wet cat food yesterday. This morning she did a HUGE stretch and is stand up by herself and not falling to the left. She does still have an odd head tick to the...

Injury- shock or brain damage? Polish hen Fries.

Well, this city slicker learned a lot today: 1: I can’t look at my chooks as just farm foul. They are my pets. 2: never again free ranging without supervision I am so mad at myself and so sad that I am here asking for experience and guidance. FRIES!!! 😭😭 today a hawk struck her down and...
