    They're here!

12 Little Khaki Campbells arrived today (Pic #1). Spent the morning redoing all that I had planned to do in the brooder. Stuff like the height of the bowls, height of the cave, placement of the stuff. They're still a little frazzled from the long ride,, so I'm letting them settle in before I go...

    1901 Indian Head Cent

My Dog is a digger, I'm trying to break Her of this problem to no avail. However, I may want to let Her keep digging. She has now dug up various bones (none are human), some small perfume bottles (broken), a bean pot handle, and now a 1901 Indian Head Cent. This house was built in 1922 by local...

    Seal concrete floor or not?

I looked for an answer for this, and didn't see it, if it's there. I'm using an existing storage area on the side of my garage for a Duck coop. It has block walls up most of the way, (not all the way so there will be good venting) and a concrete floor. Should I seal the block walls and floor...

Not new to BYC. New to birds.

    (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Many of you know me a little, and I'm grateful for your help and friendship. I've never done one of these interviews, so I feel as if I skipped a step. New to Ducks. I'm getting 12 Khaki Campbell Ducklings on June1st. Already...

    Cattle trough

I have an opportunity to buy a used 8' round, 2' high cattle trough. The problem I see is that it was previously sealed with paint on "Flex Seal". It's a rubbery sealer used to seal leaks. The trough doesn't have any leaks, but it was used as a hot tub (LOL!). I can have the deck surround for it...

I have to wait 5 months for Khaki Campbell eggs?

I read here, and elsewhere, that I would have to wait 5 months for my Khaki Campbells to lay eggs. That's a lot of free rent. Is there anyway to speed that up a bit, like more calcium or an eviction notice of some sort?

Percentage of duck hens vs drake

I'm wondering if there is a expected percentage of hens/drakes in any strait run of Ducks. I'm ordering 10 Khaki Campbell and I'm hoping for 4 hens and 1 drake. I would settle for 3 hens, but I don't want less than 3. Is there a reasonable expectation? Should I order more than 10? Money isn't...

    Hygrometers and Thermometers

I was wandering around the web looking for mini hygrometers with temperature for checking incubators. It dawned on me, that if you don't trust the one that came with the incubator, why do you trust the one your testing with. Well, I thought it would make a good topic here on BYC. Here's one I...

    In Breeding

I'm wondering, since I'm getting Ducklings from a local breeder, and I want pure bred Harlequins, should I be concerned with breeding siblings? My thought is that even if I were to swap Drakes with someone else in the area, that they would still be from the same bloodlines. What are the...

    Just starting in 2022

Hello! I don't have much to share yet, but this Summer I will have 4 Welsh Harlequin Hens and 1 Drake. I wasn't planning on a Drake at first, but I may as well since I'm ordering Ducks anyway, and they will all be the same age. The picture below shows a beautiful Bahama Pintail Duck. I came...

    Buying an existing flock

Khaki Campbell Ducks So I'm new to Ducks and I have an opportunity to buy an existing flock of Khaki Campbells. There is 4 Hens and 1 Drake. They say they're only 3 years old, so at that age I would have to raise some chicks right away. Being new, I would need to learn how to raise chicks. So...
