So last week I had a broody hen try to kill its chick during hatch. I took them from her an entire week. She has been laying next to their enclosure the entire time. I took my chances and let her in. Now she is showing them food, ect. No aggressive behavior. Whee..crazy birds
Had a hen raising her chick for two months with my flock. She stayed close to the flock and all was going well. The momma hen was killed and now the 2 month old chick is having trouble staying with the flock. Do you think she will integrate into the flock without the hen?
I have a hen that is raising a chick within the flock. I also have seven month old chicks being raised in the coop..see but don't touch method. Is it possible hen will tolerate them if they get close?
Currently I have a flock of two year olds, two 4 month old roos, a hen with a 1 week old chick. My seven new chicks are one month old and have been in the coop since day 3. The see but no touch has worked out nicely. Now the seven want out. Are they too young to join the flock? I free range...
So..this cochin roo is 2 years old and seems healthy enough but his legs and feet look strange to me. No limping and no sores on bottom of feet. Can new feather growth cause this ? I'm worried it may be serious. Please advise.
HI all..this will be my first winter with chickens. We are due for a cold snap with temperatures at 1 degrees. 11 of my birds are heavy bodied and should be fine. I have one bantam hen that sleeps in the rafters by herself. Will she be okay?
I have a 4 month old cochin roo who attacks me occasionally. It's always from behind as I'm walking away and the hens are following me. Should I be ready to cull him?
So..I'm a new keeper of 13 chicks. They will be two weeks old on Monday. Decided on a mixed flock. Orps,Bramhas plus Cochin and one Japanese bantum. One of my Brahma has wry neck so I've been treating and caring for her. I've named her Stargazer.
Well..my new mixed flock has turned a week old. One has wry neck. Its only been a week and I'm already noticing differences in her behavior. Thanks to all who have given advice. I will post a pic of "star gazer"soon.
