Looks like it’s been talked about a few times but every situation is a little different.
I had 4 silkie hens. So I got 10 silkie chicks this spring.
7 out of 10 are roosters.
They’re starting to lightly fight and then they move on and cuddle. I don’t want blood. I know I need to do something...
Good Morning everyone,
I’m just looking for some advice on integrating some silkies. I have 4 satin/silkie hens already and I have 10 straight run chicks that are almost 9 weeks old. Just wondering when I would be able to integrate them into the flock.
I last integrated a lone full size silkie...
This partridge satin is about 8 weeks (not sure on exact age) I know it’s still young, but any sex suggestions on this one? I’m thinking rooster because it sort of looks like wattles are developing but is that too early? Is the comb also a good indicator?
Thanks!
So I discovered I have a problem, which is new. Last week I was getting eggs and this week it’s only one a day in the coop. I have four hens (silkies).
I was watching my camera and saw one chicken lay an egg in the middle of the run and THREE HENS all went for it and ate it.
Is there anyway...
At first I thought it was just molting, but does she look too rough to be molting? I just want to make sure nothing is wrong. She’s acting fine otherwise. Other feathers look ok but her face and head look like this. She’s a silkie by the way. Thanks for looking!
Hey all…is this a rooster? I thought “Lemon” was a hen until like..this week when the comb just got bigger and redder and he got a bit bigger as well. I got a batch of chicks (all 6.5 months now) and the other three roosters were noticeably roo a long time ago. Lemon isn’t crowing yet and has...
Good Morning All! I got a group of satin/silkie chicks about 5 months ago. Of the 5, two are for sure roosters. They look like roosters, and they started fighting. However, I have a satin frizzle which I find very hard to sex. It’s not acting like a rooster, but that doesn’t really mean anything...
Added 5 more babies to the flock over the weekend! They integrated pretty quickly with my 5 hens (6 months old). They were raised in the coop and free ranging so they took to my coop/yard pretty quick. According to the person I got them from, they’re about 7 weeks old 😁 Anxious to see how many...
Hey all, are either of these two chickens roosters? They are 6-7 months old. I thought I had all hens but the other day I thought I heard someone practicing a crow so now I’m questioning it. These are the two I question the most, even though the first one(satin)doesn’t look like one in the face...
Not sure if this is the right spot. I have 6 silkie and satin “hens”. Was buckling my son into the car seat the other day and thought I heard a rooster 😂 Now I’m cracking my eggs because I can’t figure out if I have a rooster. All chickens are 6 months old and I got my first egg a month ago...
Good evening, just wanted to get some insight into my chickens behavior. I have 6 silkies/satins. My black silkie (Poppy) is the only one that kind of just..wanders off and goes to sleep. Everyone else goes into the coop, and she does too some nights. But two different times within the last week...
Good morning! Lets talk paint colors!
What color did everyone paint the outside of their coops?
Feel free to post a picture!
My husband built me a chicken coop for my ladies and I still need to paint it. Looking for some inspiration!
Ok, so I have two silkie roosters and they go everywhere together. They’re pretty attached to each other. Rooster A was getting beat up by another chick (which was also a rooster) so I separated him while he was healing. But I didn’t want him to be alone so I put Rooster B with him because he...
I’m posting again about another silkie chick 😂 This grey silkie chick is about 8 weeks old. It’s my slowest growing one so still a little smaller than the others. Does the red comb mean rooster? Thanks for looking!
Hi all! I’m reading a lot of information on when you can sex a silkie. Some say it can be like 6 months and others say you might be able to tell starting at 9-12 weeks. Was wondering if anyone had ideas on this mottled silkie based on a picture. Age is 9 weeks, which I know might be too early...
Hey everyone! I’m new to silkies and had a question about combs. I got some chicks back in March so they’re about 6 weeks old now. Some ended up being silkies and some are satins. I have two (one silkie, one satin) and their combs just look pretty different from the rest. Is this due to being...
I checked on my silkie chicks after work today and 1 had an injury to it’s chest. Looks like the feathers have been plucked out. I observed two of the other chicks picking at it. Could someone give me an idea on how to treat the injury? I separated the chick but didn’t want her to be alone so I...
Good Morning Everyone! Happy Saturday.
Just had a question about this chick I got. I got ten “silkies” a week ago. Thanks to some great people here, I know that half were silkies and half were of the satin variety. One of the chicks seems to be growing faster and is just more dominant toward...
I got some silkie chicks on Saturday. Today I noticed a couple had pasty butt so I soaked it off. A couple others had some drops of poo on their bums. I’m worried it’s going to keep happening. So a.) How can I prevent it? and b.) is there an easier way to get the poop off? Anything I can use...
Are there any resources of what silkie chicks grow up to look like as adults? I acquired 10 silkie chicks yesterday and I’m excited to see what they’re going to look like. I’m trying to learn their coloring and what they start out as vs what they will mature to. But I’m not sure of their...
