Tell me about your livestock guardian dogs please!

Hi! I currently have a small backyard waterfowl flock, but the 5-year plan is to be on a farm and have a much larger flock of chickens, ducks, and geese. I'm very intrigued by LGDs, but I really don't know much about them! My biggest question is.. how do you train the first one? I've heard that...

duck bumblefoot but 6 weeks later?

so my muscovy duck was walking with a limp at the end of december- I caught her and found a lump on her foot with a small black scab on the bottom, so I went about treating for bumblefoot. I did about a week of epsom salt baths, polysporin, and wrapping, until the scab turned from black to red...

Lavender epsom salt safe for duck bath?

I have a muscovy duck with bumblefoot- it's my first time treating it since owning birds! I want to give her an epsom salt bath- I only have lavender scented on hand right now. I can get some regular stuff soon, but is it safe to use the lavender for her first bath? Thanks!

Odd blemish on goose bill- fine or not?

My 12-week old goose has recently developed this odd little thing on her bill. Is it anything of concern? I have no other concerns about her health, shes got a good waterfowl diet plus free ranging in the yard and lots of water. I’m brand new to geese and hopefully I’m just over cautious!

Fish food and frozen krill for ducks?

So I have a very picky Oscar cichlid who often decides she no longer likes the pellets that only come in giant bags. So I have a whole bunch of fish food that she won't touch. Can my ducks have some as treats? It's carnivore fish food, mainly fish meal and then some fillers. I also have some...

Goose- little baby all grown up!

I was marvelling at how grown up my Gracie Goose is looking, especially since she’s only 10 weeks old! I put a bunch of her pictures together and it’s so precious. I still have no idea what breed she is (or if she’s really a she!) but I seriously suspect there may be some sebastapol in there...

Clip one or both wings in Muscovies used to flying?

So I've got four new rescue muscovies who've joined my little backyard flock. Two of them are a year old, two are a few years. Three of them are very good fliers (the fourth had some aggressive drake action and she's pretty beat up, including basically no feathering on her wings) and they're...

Adding new rescue muscovies to backyard flock

So I have a small flock of surprise rescue ducks and a goose that hatched in June and have been thriving. Through the animal sanctuary where I work, I’m now taking in four female muscovies who need a home! They’re all about a year old. Im wondering about a) adjustments I need to make to my...

Very worried about possible sex ratio in rescue ducks

So I have 5 ducks and a goose that were a surprise rescue when they were little babies. They're about 2 months old now, and my original thought was that I had 4 hens and 1 drake, I'm afraid it could be as bad as the other way around. One is for sure a hen, she's loudly quacking, one is for sure...

    4 week old quack sexing

I feel like this is a common question but anyways... I have five assorted ducklings that happened into my life. They're 4 weeks old now, and I've got some mixed vocalizations. I had read that they won't even start quacking until like 6 weeks, or that they might start at 3 weeks, or 4 months...

    Mystery Gosling ID- Sebastopol?

Hi! I have a delightful mystery goose, just over 3 weeks old. We call her Gracie (although actual sex is unknown). I was wondering if there’s anyone who might be able to take a guess as to what breed she may be! I’ve started seeing little curly feathers coming in on her tail and sides, and that...

Sneezing ducklings... water is deep enough

I have 5 ducklings and a gosling, a little over a week old. Three days ago I heard one of the ducks sneezing, but then went right over to the water and dunked his head and cleared up whatever it was. Since then I've caught all the ducklings sneezing at least once, and this morning they were all...
