    Accidental Sexlink?

Cockerel? I'm afraid to know the answer. One of my barnyard mixes ran away and brought back 8 chicks. Picture of her included. Dad is buff orpington. I think they made sex links. 5 light and 3 brown. What do you think?

Injured chicken better but won't eat much

My 16 month old Wyandotte was injured by a dog 6 days ago. It seems like she had a punctured air sac on her back. We brought her inside, cleaned her up, and treated the wounds. She was touch and go for a few days, but the wound closed on her back. By day two we started her on amoxicillin. By...

    New hens eating others' eggs

I had a flock of 10 hens and 2 roos. They're still fairly young 8-9 months old. They free range in the back yard with about an acre and have a coop that's about 20x15 and 10tall with roosts, food, and nesting boxes. They only really stay in at night and to lay and munch. I got 4 three year old...

    Rooster Comb injury

My Orpington rooster has a comb injury. I suspect another rooster. It's not bad, but it bled down into his neck feathers. The blood is dry, and you can see his skin on his neck. We cleaned and put neosporin on the comb. It's around 30 F here. Would it be worse to clean his neck and him to...

Free range chickens going too far

I have 14 chickens that have been free ranging for about 5 months. We have about 2 acres, and they've been fine. Today, a group of 4 decided to cross the deep creek into my neighbor's property. Any suggestions? I wouldn't have thought they'd be that adventurous.

    Eye injury?

I just received some chicks from Murray McMurray, and one of my chicks seems to have an eye injury. She also seems more stressed than the others. Everyone else ate pretty quickly. It's only been about half an hour, but she seems a little more stumbley than the others. Thanks for your help...

what's the best way to integrate?

I have 3 pullets and two cockerels (probably) that are 8 weeks old. At three weeks I started giving them time outside in a prefab coop and increased the time over a week or so until their feathers grew in. I also gradually introduced time outside the starter coop and taught them to go inside...

    What hatchery do you like?

I haven't had luck with the sexing or the breeds being accurate from TSC. I need to get some more pullets. What mail order hatcheries do you like? Have you had good results with sexing? Or should I just stick with a sex link? I've seen the lists of hatcheries, but not much on preferences...

8 week old buff orp Roo?

I've been convinced that this bird was a cockerel for weeks. I'm not sure anymore. This is my first flock, so I have no idea what I'm talking about. Any thoughts? Roo has had a big pink comb for about 5 weeks. Roo's comb still hasn't turned red like my confirmed cockerel. (who has started...
