Sad to say yhis morning two of the four chicks which hatched on Saturday- sunday found dead this morning the other two chicks are ok
On a brighter note on checking the remaining 3 eggs in incubator notice one egg had s crack across it so gently parted it to find a healthy chick alive inside
At what age should chicks be introduced to a full grown quail
I normally keep chicks in brooder until 4 to six wks old but unsure if i should put them in with older birds afterwards
Pleased to say after the recent loss of most of my first brood of quail due to rats (only one survived )
Lucky i had 7 eggs collected which i decided to put in my incubator
Today 4 chicks had hatched up to now day18
Fingers crossed others might by tomorrow
Yesterday i went to feed my quail to find 7 lying dead in thr coop
On inspection i found 1 survivor hiding inside s box on top of a nest box

The last time i tried hatching quail eggs. I put 20 eggs into my hdd incubator temperature 37.5, humidity 50%,turned every 2 hrs
The hatch was only 8 chicks
Since then have been told a dry hatch might give better results
Has anyone done this and what was there success rate
I found one of my quail lying on its side alive but unable to stand up
Checked it over nothing obvious it flaps its wings ,breathing ok both legs move. But when i try to stand it up it just falls over
As a precaution have isolated it in to a separate cage. Fingers crossed it might recover
After a lot of research I've decided to use sand as the main coop surface for my quail
This Is due it's ability to absorb the wet droppings rather than straw or wood shavings which tend to lump
Can I ask members what is there preferance
