It was hatched with a broody hen and is being kept in then hen house with the other chicks. No heat lamp in use! Is this pasty butt. I used a warm wet towel to clean it off. Any advice would be appreciated.
I need some ideas on how to rid my yard of these pesky creatures. We do have water standing in the yard and honestly it is something that can’t be fixed without major land work. So asking for chicken safe solutions for mosquitoes 🦟
One of the eggs under brooding in busted completely, and got the others wet. My question is are the eggs OK or has the bloom been disturbed? Also, one of them has cracked. Should I discard that now or wait to see what happens? Thanks for the advice.
P.s. This is our first time hatching eggs.
I went out this morning and found an ostrich egg in the nesting box. But considering I own an ostrich…lol. All jokes aside this came from our black Brahma. It was double the size and double yolk.
Now, to the point of this thread.
Post a pic of your LARGEST eggs.
We have a buff Brahma that is laying in the run area. I also found one laying out in the yard while they were free ranging. We have 9 hens altogether and 8 of the 9 are laying. We have 3 nesting boxes, (of course they only use 2) they are clean and have plenty of straw in them. The buff Brahma...
We purchased a couple of older chicks at our flea market in the late summer last year. One turned out to be a rooster and a good one at that. He does a great job at keeping our ladies safe. If he hears or sees anything that may be dangerous he sounds the alarm and everyone goes into the hen...
Good day all.
We have decided to hatch our own chicks this year with a broody hen. With all the aviary illness going around I think that is best.
I want suggestions from people who have done this in the past. Tell me all you secrets for success. 😂
Any and all help on the subject is...
I have a strange question. In my house we go through a LOT of pickles. I know there are many health benefits for humans drinking pickle juice. My question is, can chickens drink pickle juice and are there any health benefits for them?
Thanks for your input.
Our ladies haven’t laid an egg since October. We did have one random egg about 3 weeks ago but it was in the middle of the run not in the nesting box.
We have changed feed a few times and they have access to clean water.
We have 4 of laying age and 4 pullets that should start laying any time...
I have a white Brahma who has been very lethargic the past couple of days. It started after she drank water from our gray water drainage area (the dishwasher was running at the time). All of our chickens have drunk this water before with no sign of issue. On Monday evening I let them out to roam...
We have an indoor cat named Molly, who is 12 years old. She has a bad sore on her chest area around her nipple. It has been there for a few weeks now and is not getting better. It has been leaking and bleeding. It is hard around the sore and you can feel it under the skin. She doesn’t act any...
This is our new heritage barred rock Dottie!
She makes our flock an even 10. She is 5 months old and was raised on a non GMO fully organic farm. She is such a sweetheart heart and loves being held. 10 was the number we wanted our flock to be but we will have to see how chicken math goes. 😊
The rules of the game are simple. Give your opinion. Hen or Roo
And yes I know that a young female chicken is a Pullet and the young male is a cockerel.
Just picked this beautiful up today and now we need a name. We use old lady names we have Ethel, Lucy, Elsie, Eliza, Gertrude, Mabel, Pearl and Penny. What is your suggestion?
my question is will having a broody hen in a nesting box decrease egg production? Our coop has 3 nesting boxes we have 4 other layers other than miss broody we are averaging 2 eggs per day. The 2 that are not laying at Americanas. Im sure time of year and weather is affecting this also. But...
