Ok, so some of my chickens sound congested. Which would lead me to believe there is a respiratory issue. The beginning of June I filled one of their waterers with antibiotics to help fight off whatever they had going on. Three weeks later they still sound congested.
They all act normal, just...
I may have inherited a partially blind chicken.
She practically puts her face on the ground to hunt for food. She stays close to her “sister”
The breeder offered a replacement but she’s so sweet I rather just love her.
Anyways, what are some “special needs” chicken things I need to take care of?
So, after some quick research it looks like bloody stool could be Coccidiosis. But before treating, I would like other opinions…(also, wasn’t sure if treating them without them having it would be harmful)
So, picked up young pullets March 28. They hatched Feb 13. I wasn’t expecting young...
I have a chocolate Orpington. She has some feather issues and is low lady in the pecking order. After being a “momma” she got all her feathers back and was looking great!
Then, she lost her neck feathers and as they start to come back in the others pluck them out. I have used anti-pecking spray...
My rooster has limped off and on for several months. I have checked his foot a couple times and never noticed anything obvious. Someone once said their rooster would hurt their ankles when mounting the hens. I figured that’s what it was.
But the other day he must have cut himself and I saw some...
I have 15 chickens, 12 of them are ALMOST 2 years old (DOB 3/2023).
Of course, it’s December, some are molting, etc etc so I have only been getting about 1 egg a day.
Tonight I found an “egg” inside a box. It looks like chewed gum or deflated balloon…
Is it just a weird egg thing? It’s not a...
I already built a “mini” coop to kinda look like my garage. It is going to be used like a tiny coop for young ones or sick/injured chickens.
My future coop is going to be large (maybe like 8X10) and look like our house. I know, I know…it’s a little “much” but it will be adorable.
Anyways, my...
Ok, so here is my current situation….
I have an established Bielefelder rooster, Mr. Bach. He has 11 hens. One hen got broody back in early July and I got her some babies, 3 americanas and 1 bielefelder.
The 3 americanas ended up being roosters 🤦♀️ I was able to rehome the one handsome boy...
I will be building a new coop in the spring.
Currently I have 3 roosters (1 still needs a loving home). I was trying to figure out if anyone has had success with doing two separate areas inside the same coop for two flocks. Since I’ll be building my own coop/having someone build me a custom set...
Please help me out! Please tell me I didn’t buy 3 roosters 😬😬😬
Important notes….
- approximately 8 weeks old
- purchased from Tractor Supply on July 6th (2024)
- less than a week old (approx 3 days old) when purchased
- one chick, Chilly, broke her leg a week after we got her, so maybe healing...
My chicks are approximately 4 weeks old. Within the first week I had to bring one inside because they broke their leg. The leg has now healed but we are struggling getting the leg back in motion….
Anyways, I noticed Chilly (our handicapable chick) has way less feathers than the others and is...
I was buying a snack mix for my chickens, it was corn, some grain seeds, oats, and meal worms (something to that effect).
Anyways, I wanted to just make my own bigger match of snack mix for them. Lately I was doing meal worms, a scoop of chicken scratch, dried oregano, and some Feather Fixer...
So, I have some chickens that did a partial molt. The chickens will be a year old this March. I have added extra protein to their diet, meal worms, feather fixer feed, etc etc.
Some of the girls only lost feathers are their necks. They got their feathers back already (still not laying again...
I could use a little help with a rude hen. I’m assuming she is alpha cause all the others coward to her, but she is the smallest and fiercest. She definitely hates my RIR. If she goes in the coop and they are in ANY box, she rips them out by the back of their necks! She pecks at others and...
