Not blue marans, so what could they be?

Hi! These four month old gals were supposed to be blue copper marans. I don’t think that’s the case 😅 any ideas? They both have very dark skin, single combs, clean legs. One has never had a tail and the other is now growing one in.

    Broody-ish chicken

Hi! I have a two year old Easter egger who has all the signs of being broody except she hasn’t been laying for over a month due to molting. Instead of hanging out in the nesting box, she stays on the lowest roost in the coop (closest to nesting boxes) nearly all day. She paces on the roost...

Six week Dominique - hen or roo?

This is Domino, a six week old Dominique. Is Domino a lady or a gent by your eye?

    Suspecting Mareks

I suspect I have had some birds with Mareks and one I believe currently does. I have her isolated and I’m planning to cull based on her condition. 😩 How do I locate a lab in Texas to send the hen for testing? I tried googling and found locations that you send blood samples to, but aren’t there...

Is this fowl pox or something else?

Sorry for the picture quality, she was not cooperating. Is this fowl pox? Something else? I currently have another hen with eye problems as noted in another thread but this hen has only the bumps shown, no eye or respiratory symptoms at the moment.

Eye infection - no vet near us for chickens

I have a hen with a terrible eye infection. I’ve searched everywhere in my area for a vet who will see chickens and there are none. My regular vet that sees my dogs won’t provide a prescription. What can I do? Is she doomed?

What in the world is going on?!

I hope this won’t be too long, apologies in advance! I have an 11 week old Orpington and on Monday she was speeding around the run, catching bugs, playing, acting completely normal. Eating and drinking normally as well. Yesterday morning we found her laying down with a completely limp neck...

    So stumped!!

This is an 11 week old sapphire olive egger that has me so confused. I’ve gone back and forth on gal/guy and still don’t feel certain. It’s face is SO red, none of my others of same age are. It acts and sounds completely different and is often picking fights with my young cockerel...

Nesting boxes in high heat climates

Last summer we lost three chickens to the heat, all of them were in the nesting boxes when we found them. We’re in North Texas so we are guaranteed weeks of 100+ temps with high humidity. The coop has a lot of ventilation, we keep the doors and windows open in addition during summer days and...

Does anyone have a “nice” Rhode Island Red?

I hate to say this, but this is the only breed we’ve had that we have begun to regret 😬. We have three and they are all mean as heck. Of course they are at the top of the pecking order so I expect some dominant behavior but these three are just brutal. We might be making other plans for them...

    I’m probably a roo, aren’t I?

I feel like I’ve had bad luck with sexed chicks this year unless I’m off base with this one. A five week old Easter egger with red coming in at the shoulder 😭. Hope I’m wrong - thoughts?

Early thoughts on sapphire olive egger?

This gal/guy is six weeks old and is a sapphire olive egger. I know it’s early but I’m seeing things that lead me to believe he’s a roo 😅- thoughts? On a side note, these pictures don’t capture it, but this bird has the longest legs ever and stand really straight up. We call it Dinosaur 🤣

New goat owner - confused about minerals

Hi! I have recently acquired four wethers - Nigerian dwarf/pygmy crosses 😄 I’m wondering if anyone might be able to assist me with how to provide their minerals? Since they will eat hay and forage only (no grain) how can I administer the minerals? I’ve read it’s ok to offer them free choice...

Severe storm, major power outage - no heat!

Morning! We just had severe storms in North Texas and have no power. This of course means I can’t provide heat for my chicks. Most are three and four weeks old but my youngest two are only one week - how long can they go without a heat source? Any ideas of what to do in the meantime? They are...

    Easter Eggers from Ideal?

Does anyone have Easter Eggers from ideal poultry? We went to the feed store last week and got two chicks but what I found interesting is that in the Easter egger brooder (all from ideal) they all looked identical! Usually when I’ve seen Easter eggers, they are varied in color. Makes me...

    New chicks from TS!

***Don’t look if you’re trying to avoid buying babies! 🤣*** So far these (hopefully) ladies don’t have names but they are so sweet! The buff Orpington and gold laced Wyandotte are two weeks and the sapphire olive egger is one week. She is SO small and looks like she’s wearing a fuzzy hoodie.

    Early guesses on Faverolle

This guy or gal is 2.5 weeks so I know it’s early. I have a feeling it’s a roo due to darker coloring coming in near the chest and comb size - what do you think? Either way, it’s adorable 🥰 I can’t keep a rooster so if it’s a he, I’ll be looking for a nice home.

Dealing with guilt from hawk attack

Yesterday a red-tailed hawk killed two of our chickens in the run. We were in the midst of changing out our netting on the top of the run and I guess it took the small window of opportunity to attack 😢. It killed two of our sweetest most personable hens - isn’t that the way it always goes...

Smokey Pearl - skin color change?

I have two smokey pearls that we got last August as chicks. Both had yellow legs and light colored beaks, red combs and wattles. They are now six months old and one seems to be changing skin color - is this possible? Her legs, beak and skin around the eyes seems to be turning dark. Her beak is...

Anyone else have a loner chicken?

This is Cream, she’s a 1.5 year old Easter egger who loves to be ALONE. She is happy and healthy, eats and lays well, is not bullied nor a bully herself. She simply has JOMO (the joy of missing out 😅). Ever since she was a little pullet she’s been like this - anyone else have a loner in their...
