I hatched this chick from eggs off eBay. They were BBS Marans. I did get two blacks, two splash, and this one. It does have feathered feet, but seems to have mostly black comb and skin. Is this a blue Marans? Or possibly a cemani Marans cross?
My hen sat for 20 days in our coop, i moved her to a brooder on day 20. She hatched 7 chicks, and they have been in the separate brooder for 4 days now. When should i re introduce them to the flock? My concern was that our coop is raised 3’ with a fairly steep 2x10 ramp. What age should they be...
Today is hatch day for my first batch of chicks. I have BBS Marans, BCM Marans, and two of what i believe are my barred rock roo/ RIR hen. One splash Marans in the incubator has hatched, a BCM and a Blue Marans has hatched under my broody hen. Tomorrow i have BBS Ameraucana due, then Saturday i...
I have this steel angle frame that was supposed to be a dog kennel that never made it there. I’m thinking of converting it to a coop. I’ll probably use sheet metal to wrap all the sides and doors, put advantec flooring in and paint it, put an angled sheetmetal roof with venting, add roost bars...
i began my first adventure with hatching eggs in an incubator 7 days ago. O have two nurture right 360 that are both full. One has 6 black copper Marans, 4 BBS Marans, and 12 BBS Ameraucana. The other has 12 blue laced red Wyandotte and 10 White polish eggs. In the first incubator, 19 of 22 eggs...
i currently have a dozen BCM eggs, and 8 ameracauna eggs in my nurture right. I am doing a dry hatch. I live in east TN, the humidity in my house is 50%, my NR says 31 and my Govee in the incubator reads 24. They’re set at 99.5. My question is, if i close my vent to keep the humidity up around...
I have a RIR hen that has been broody for a 1.5 weeks now. I have some marans hatching eggs in the mail, will she stay broody long enough to hatch them? She has been sitting 24/7 for 10-12 days. I have been pulling infertile eggs from under her and leaving her a couple each day to sit on.
Currently have a third coast design coop. I have 9 hens and a rooster, they fit comfortably. But I’d like to get another 5-10 hens. Thoughts on adding more coop space to this setup? My original thoughts are something less lavish, possibly an open air design off the opposite end of the run of the...
Recently lost my BCM rooster. He was great, a stray dog grabbed him while out free ranging. I’d love to replace him with another, either a BCM male chick or rooster. Located in East Tennessee!
As the title states, I’m looking for around 5 pullets in east tn. The closer to Knoxville area the better. Rhode Island reds, barred rocks, black copper marans, ameracauna, Easter Eggers, olive egger, any of the above! Also looking for a BCM Rooster
We ordered 2 light Brahma hens with our chicks back in February. The whole time this chick has been much larger than the rest, and now is pestering the hens along with our BCM Rooster. The BCM had begun crowing, this Brahma has not. He/she is much larger in size and has larger/more red comb and...
I’m in the process of building this coop, it already has openings under both ends of the roof, plus ventilation from the ridges of the metal roof. In summer i can open the windows to allow for more air flow. For winter, does this coop need more vents up high?
