    Ferragosto adopt-an-egg hatch-a-long

So my serial broody Peach decided to sit for the 3rd time this season. She is a freaky unbreakable broody machine that lays for a month, sits for a month, and wean the chicks in a month, rinse and repeat. So this time I'm gonna do my first hatch a long! The eggs should hatch on August 15...

    Help me name this pullet!

Here she is, she's an Easter egger! The name should NOT start with the following letters: P, D, K, F, G

6 weeks old cockerels fighting to the death already?

I hatched 6 cockerels on my last batch. My plan was to invite them to dinner at 3 months old. They are 2 bantams and 4 dual purpose. The 2 bantams decided to fight to the death today, which I didn't even realize because the fight was completely silent and they were fighting under some large...

    Show me your ugliest egg.

Today Little Hen laid an egg as weird as herself. In the middle of the lawn obviously. Nothing to worry about. She's just all weird. Show me a picture of your weirdest/ugliest eggs!

Interesting study about internal laying and egg yolk peritonitis

Just stumbled into this article and thought it was worth sharing. Warning, graphic necropsies. https://nexusacademicpublishers.com/table_contents_detail/4/428/html

    Tell me he's a boy!

I sense boy vibes here finally! All that white with orange shoulders. Salmon faverolle Easter egger x CL. 2.5 weeks old. This is my third hatch trying to get a male from this crossing.

    What color is this?

She's almost 4 months old, her mother is a salmon favaucana (basically a rumpless SF) and father is cream legbar.

Solved is there a way to see all the watched threads?

I watched a thread that I wanted to read later that day, but nobody replied and it's now lost who knows where. Is there a way to see all my watched threads so I can figure out what it was? Thanks!

    5 weeks old, all cockerels?

So my broody hatched 100% pullets last year and this year I'm expecting math to run its course. These chicks are: 2 Legbar x duckwing araucana ee 2 Legbar x salmon faverolle ee You can tell by the comb which is which. I have a feeling they're all males. What do you think?

    Guess the color

Anyone wants to do a color guess of these 2 chicks in the center? Father is cream legbar, mother is the salmon EE in the pic. Don't mind the 2 dark ones. Their mother is golden duckwing so nothing exciting.

Senile pigeon, would be ok to feed him some chickstarter?

My pet pigeon is over 15 years old and he's reaching the end. He has congestive heart failure and he's developed a paralysis on his legs. I believe he's having difficulties eating his pigeon feed. I don't think chickstarter can make him much worse than how he already is, but just to be on the...

Mild form on infectious bronchitis (NOT an emergency - resolved)

This happened a few weeks ago but maybe it's worth sharing. I started my flock with 2 adult birds and then hatched everything else. I never added adult birds to my flock. One of the 10 months old pullets started sneezing one evening. - The next morning she had lack of appetite and didn't run...

    Rooster overmating one hen

I know this topic has been discussed many times, but my situation is different. Most of the discussed scenarios were about a rooster terrorizing one hen and forcing her to mate. In my case this hen is absolutely consenting and she loves the rooster, and she's always with him. My rooster is 10...

Dumb question about blue eggs genetic

I have a cream legbar rooster that I got from a reliable breeder. Then I got an araucana hen from a not-as-reliable friend which, even if she was born from a blue egg, she lays green. Her sister, born from a blue egg, lays pink. If I mate the CL rooster with the green "araucana" egger, will I...

Faverolles/araucana easter egger lays like an isa brown

She laid 10 eggs in 10 days, she doesn't appear to be taking a break anytime soon and I'm totally baffled. I chose to breed chickens that lay no more than 150 eggs per year because I don't need more than that and I prioritize animal health, longevity and wellness over production, but this...

    Rooster unwell. Cocci?

This morning I noticed that my 7 months old cockerel is unwell. Hi doesn't tidbit for the ladies. This is not normal. I observed him and he's less active with a sad looking tail. He still crows and mate. His crop is not empty but there is not much food in there. He's not interested in food. He...

My defective araucanas being insanely cute

I got a bunch of araucana eggs from my friend. Two of them were born with a tail so I couldn't sell them and I kept them as Easter Eggers. One is 90% faverolles (I don't even know how since there are no faverolles breeders in the area), the other is kind of weird in the head (she only makes one...

Is it better one large nest or 2 small nests?

I have 4 hens inside a coop with 4 nest boxes (2 on the ground and 2 up a ramp in the upper floor of the coop). It's been over a year and they obviously all lay in one nestbox (I have fake eggs in all boxes). Do you think it's a good idea to remove a couple of separators to make 2 large nests...

List of local breeds from Venice inland

I thought it would be interesting to show some rare breeds that are local to my land, the Veneto region of Italy. Some are pretty popular like the Padovana, others are extinct like the Boffa, others are being brought back to life with some issues sadly, like the Polverara. Here are a few breeds...
