I have a barred Olive Egger. She just laid her first egg today and it is brown with grayish specks. I am very disappointed. This one going in the pot for Christmas. Too many brown egg layers.
Sooooo, I bought those chickens on April 2nd from TSC. They were sold to me as 1 week old meat bird/Cornish type. Thanks to BYC , I found out they were bantam cochins.
First pics were taken on April 6th the 2nd pic taken April 17th, the 3rd pic is May 11th and last picture yesterday.
From what...
And why the choice?
Would you choose to add:
A Welsummer rooster OR
A Barred Rock rooster?
Please note. The flock is 17 hens. Flock Already have 1 brahma rooster named Banana Brahma and a FBCM rooster named Monsieur Jacques Marans.
I know the white is a leghorn, one looks like welsummer but what breed are the other 2?
The yellow one produced a pinkish egg today, the leghorn of course laid the white.
You think the black/brown laid the light brown egg?
Has this been done?
Should we do it?
Hatchery / Breeders etc...can require high quantity when ordering. One might just want a few chicks.
Has group ordering been done here before? Per region/per city/per willingness to drive etc...
Let me just say that my feed store calls the standard cochin "giant cochin" to make sure buyers are aware that their chick will get big.
My question is: is there a way to differentiate between standard cochin cock or pullet? They are so cute and they have lavender ones.
Hi everyone.
Please help me out.
A little background. I tried yo buy a pullet barred rock 4 times, 3 of the those times I ended with cockerel and 1 time ended up with a non barred rock.
This seller in my city sent me those pics.
Is there a pullet in there? She said they are 4 months old...
I bought those 2 from a feed store who gets their chicks from privett. I got one from the Barred Rock pullet and the other one from the OLIVE EGGER pullet drawer. I feel they were neither.
Large Welsummer hen.
I went to a farm a few weeks ago and the Welsummer in her flock were almost double the size of my Welsummer that I am presently raising. Her bird's feathers are silky and nice. She told me she breeds them to be like that. I've been trying to get in touch with her since...
I got some chicken from TSC.
The white ones I am guessing are COCHINS pullet and Cockrel??? They were in the meat bird bin. Now I am thinking they are probably Bantam size. Can anyone confirm cochin and Bantam?
Hello all.
I am new here and also new to chicken. I went to my feed store about 2 months ago and they had those chicks in a bin. The bin c ok clearly stated black copper maran pullet.
Well, I took this one home because she was black and she had feathered feet with almost no comb. But over...
