Two eggs zipped but no progress

Here I go again, lol. I think I know the answer is to wait but this time is different than my first hatch. We started with 12 eggs. 3 quit around day 7 and were removed. Out of the remaining 9, 2 have hatched, 2 are fully zipped but making little progress, 1 zipped just today while I was at...

    Fluffy head chicken breed

We saw some chicks at a petting zoo today that had fluffy heads and my husband and kids fell in love. I wasn't able to all to the owner so I don't know what kind of chicks they were. I wish I had pictures but they didn't tell me until later they wanted them. Can anyone help?

    Early signs of f

All of the eggs in the 12 batch are showing signs. We're excited and trying not to intervene too much but it seems at least 11/12 are fertile. I didn't take pictures of all because not all are camera visible. Early signs of fertile eggs.

    Duck eggs

My husband has expressed an interest in hatching ducks. Any referrals or Augustus for ordering?

    Final hatch I think.

7/12 just hatched today. It was my husbands first time seeing the actual hatch and he was enthralled and as worried as I was on the first one. They all seem to have the same Mom and we are so excited we got so many out of a botched noob experience. We have one more we're still holding from...

    Sweet pictures

It's so sweet. It's like they're trying to encourage their sisters to come out. Just posted because it's so sweet.

New hatch just minutes old seems exhausted

This is my first time actually seeing the hatch. I only caught the last parts where she freed herself. Hoping it's normal for her to be so tired. The other ones they were already running around the incubator by the time I got home from work. Just checking for peace of mind. Thank you!

    Two more chicks today!

Two more chicks today! They both are moving and seem happy but one of them has something dangling from her backside. The string is long and then and seems to still have the remainder of the yolk all attached to it. I'm leaving it alone for now to see if it detached on its own. I assume that's...

    Little hard little hopeful

Out of my mixed batch one of my chicks hatched today from 7/4. We are so excited to hatch our first chick on our own but it meant having to acknowledge that chicky from 7/2 will not hatch. I've known for a couple days I think because I saw the membranes separating when candling but the kids...

    Really dumb question

My BBM has been broken, now known as 3BM; but with love. I still have two roosters. When my batch comes out of the incubator should I treat all eggs as fertilized still or is there a season or need for the BM for this to happen? Thanks in advance.

First batch I think is looking good!

I have definitely given up on the candeler that is on my incubator. (Impeckables 12 cap) but I did manage to finally see veins at the roughly ten day mark. My issue now is I'm a newb and have mixed start dates because I got a lot of my info from a neighbor who also hasn't had a lot of experience...

    Chick identification

Fairly sure that daddy is a white Orpington and mom is an astralorp. Just hoping to confirm. Attached pictures of definite daddy and potential mommy for the Maury decision, lol. We have two roosters of the same breed so I have no doubts about that. But the brooder was a small white hen and...

    I'm a newb

I bought an incubator in response to a broody bad mom who was homicidal. The first two eggs were in the incubator for a few days before I realized I didn't set the cycle so they were sitting at 80 degrees with no turning for a few days. I don't know if it's hopeless to save them now or if I...

    Now she's a BBBM

So broody bad mom is apparently broken so now she's BBBM. I guess she got the message when I kept taking the eggs lol.

    Update on broody bad mom

After taking the fertile eggs out of the nest and putting them in neighbors incubator they hatched within a few days. These are our new little chicks. One of the four we took her did not survive hatching. Out of the three that were left with broody, one died after being kicked out of the nest...

    Introduction

Hi, my name is Ginny and I am married with three children. (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I think we are reasonably new compared to most. We got our first chickens a few years ago and had a lot of initial ups and downs before we were able to successfully raise a...

    Egg pushed out of nest

I'm going to start by admitting I'm a newbie and 90% of what I've learned, I've learned from google, which I know isn't always the best way. I have had a broody hen since the beginning of May and have only recently gotten the hang of candling. We never planned to breed chicks but I noticed a...
