I posted when this pretty baby was 2 days old thinking she may be a he... had a comb at hatch! Huge spot on head and a tude right away.
Well, the more red meant more cuddles...and that's tude has flipped into the most lovey cuddly baby ever!
Original name was Black Hawk, now at 8 weeks we are...
So a week ago I walked out and my girls were...devouring a wild bird.
Today as I was cuddling our 2 baby chicks I noticed I had a mite crawling on me, then another.
The chicks are a little over a week old.
What can I do to treat them?
This little babe is a Barred Rock...1 week old. Our first of this breed. We were told should be a female, but since day 1 Ive had suspicion.
1. Hatched w a comb
2. Is feisty and actually bites
3. Turning red already?!?!
But, I know its too soon to tell. Just taking guesses.
If she is a he...
As some may or maynot know we lost my girl Henelope to heat stroke on the 4th. Today I was shocked to find a random lonely baby chick in the driveway at my in laws! They do not have chickens. Maybe it came from a farm nextdoor? We checked and the owner said she may have chicks shes not aware of...
Hi all,
Henelope our barneveldor is 11 months old. She had bumblefoot pretty bad, today when I went to get her ( was waiting on a delivery of everything we needed) she was lethargic, panting and pale. I scooped her up brought her inside gave her a cool bath for 30mins. She perked back up. We...
My sweet baby girl is being broody! I can't separate her, we have a run and coop with automatic door, if we close the door our other girls won't be able to lay their eggs.
We wouldn't mind getting a few fertilized eggs. Coop is 8ft by 8ft and we have 7 hens, we also have 7 nesting boxes. The run...
Our girls hatched August 5th and we've had a pretty harsh winter. I noticed these black spots on two of our babies combs. I let them room in their run whenever they want from sun up to sun down and we've had a lot of freezing rain this season. I assume it's frostbite but I need some opinions...
OK, my polish keep getting icecicles in their crest, I have been drying them and trimming them only to come out and BAM more ice! I'm not sure how, or why or what they are doing! Tonight I had to dry Splash and she was not having it! I got the ice thawed and mostly dried before I finally let her...
OK yes, no, if it's below 30, certain breeds... what the heck? So many opinions so much mixed advice. I have 7 chickens. First winter, first time chicken keeper.
Our not cold tolerant babes:
1 Frizzle
2 Polish
1 Cookies and cream
Our Cold Hardy babes:
1 Dark Brahma
1 Green Queen
1 Barnevelder...
Nugget, our 15 week Green Queen, is acting mad at me. Usually she comes to her name and will do trick for her worms.
She will follow me and eat out of my hands. Yesterday was "hair cuts" for our 2 Polish and 1 Cookie and cream. Well, all went well Cookie decided she wanted cuddles after her trim...
Our girls are 23 days old so between 4 and 5 weeks. Everyone's telling us let them stay out in their day coop overnight.
Their coop is temporary and its a run inside a run inside a fenced in yard.
It's been a scorcher today and low 70s tonight
OK, last week I noticed our babies were itchy and feathers growing fast, so I wanted to offer a dustbath of just plain Ole dirt from our yard. I ground it up to almost a powder and filled a shallow Tupperware lid. I mixed a smidgen of dried lavender to help them relax. Who doesn't love a...
After our buy fail, adorable 2 house coop, we decided to scratch it resell it to someone for rabbits, and building from scratch!
We had tons of inspiration and I'm more than exstatic to begin!
The building plan comes from an 8 x 8 shed plan.
We are adding insulation, a roof vent, windows, and...
It's probably WAY too early. 1 week old today and we have identified 5 of our 7 babies.
What's left is our meal maker and our green queen.
Any guesses?
Our baby's are only 6 days old and have began grooming hardcore, new feathers must be itchy.
So, I collected some dirt from the yard and pretty much sifted it to a dust then added dried lavender.
Think this will work for their first dust bath?
OK our babies were hatched today, super active and seemingly happy. Only peeping when I would go away and here and there. Well, it's bedtime and someone is yelling towards the door. Then loads of peeps. Then silence. I'm watching them. Do they seem cold? They do keep coming out well the fat one...
