Mites / Do I have to replace sand in run?

I have 4 chickens who spent 5 months at another coop while my family was evacuated post ca fires. They had mites there but were treated twice before coming home. Our coop had new sand bedding & nesting pads. Its about 5 weeks since theyve been home & I noticed some feather loss (not a ton) on...

What do you go by? we won’t have the volume to jar preserve & plan to give away half cartons when we hit peak laying. A few from this week for ref—I think today’s egg is from a new lady laying...

Battery operated / need radiant heat?

It’s our first winter with our ladies & I know we are not in a cold area (I am in SoCal) like people dealing with below zero temps. But I still worry when it gets to our lowest temps later this winter overnight if I need to have a heat source. In the summer I had a small portable battery...

    Bloom & water question

First time chicken Mama and we have our first eggs!!! I know not to wash them to preserve bloom & we are keeping them on kitchen counter as we only have 4 ladies & don’t anticipate a big backlog of eggs. That said today I picked one up (to admire it, oops, newbie in awe!) and realized my hands...

    Who laid this egg?

Hi! We got our very first egg today! Based on how the girls have been acting my guess would be Cha Cha our Cinnamin Queen (doing the squat when you go to pet her) or Marshmallow our Wheaten Maran (she was in & out of roost all day). They are all 5.5 mos old. Silver laced wyandotte (Squirrel)...

    exterior nesting box pred proofing?

I plan on putting 3 hasp locks with a padlock in middle and caribeeners on outer 2 locks. Is there anything else I can/should do? I hate not having hardeare cloth there and on exterior clean out doors but hoping 3 locks on wood is enough? No bears, yes raccoons.

New chicken Mama—Our almost 6 week chicks are about to move full time into their coop (it’s halfway done).
